I have been under the care of Dr Abbas for around six years as I have a long-term health condition. I cannot speak highly enough of him. He is a very knowledgeable, professional doctor but also a very caring and kind man who has gone above and beyond to help me with my long-term health condition.

I was diagnosed with an over active thyroid and referred to Dr Abbas, in Jan 2021 I have been in regular contact with him for the last 8 months. During this time my treatment plan/options have been fully explained and it has always felt that I was being treated as an individual. Unfortunately one of my blood tests showed a problem and my admission to hospital was quickly arranged. A clear treatment plan was passed to the ward team and surgery was arranged. I was always kept informed of test results and plans. Following surgery I have continued to have regular follow up, blood tests are arranged and results explained and acted on. Dr Abbas has always shown great care and excellent communication skills, he listens to any symptoms or concerns and fully explains what action needs to taken and the reason for it. At a challenging time for the NHS and when face to face consultations have not been possible, my contact has been by video, phone and email it is therefore commendable that I don’t feel that my care has been compromised, which can only be due to the exemplary clinical and communication skills of Dr Abbas. I could not have had better care.

I am writing this letter in order to provide an honest and accurate assessment of the care that my mother received from Dr Abbas whilst she was under his care on J21, Gledhow Wing. For clarity, neither me nor my family had ever met Dr Abbas before my Mum's stay in hospital.  Before Dr Abbas had taken over my Mum's care she had already been in hospital for approximately a week with acute hypercalcemia and was very ill. It was evident that she needed a hyperparathyroidectomy but this wasn't being pushed enough by the previous Doctors who had been looking after my Mum, effectively we were going round in circles whilst my Mum deteriorated. When Dr Abbas took over my Mum it was like a breath of fresh air and a huge relief.   These are the things that stood out for me:He understood the clinical urgency for my mum to have an operation and pushed this hard for us. Mum had been suffering for several weeks and Dr Abbas accepted that treating the symptoms alone was no longer an option. This helped us immensely as within a matter of days we'd been reviewed by a surgeon who gave us a date for surgery within a week. We'll forever be grateful for this. He was extremely knowledgeable in the area of calcium and managed to explain this to us in a way that we understood. His explanations were very clear and we fully understood risks / benefits of every option available to us. Empathy. I think everybody within the medical industry needs to be empathetic because we are talking about lives and people not just patient numbers. His levels of empathy were incredible. General approach/demeanour. We felt very comfortable approaching Dr Abbas because of his approach and communication skills. He really made the time for us and kept us informed through every stage of Mum's care. He did not make us feel like he was too busy for us like some of the other medical professionals we came across on this journey. I feel it's important that I give this feedback because we live in a world where we are quick to complain but do not shout enough when somebody does something extremely well. We could never thank him enough for the way he took care of our Mother and the fact that he escalated her needs beyond symptom control. I only wish we'd seen him sooner so we could have reduced Mum's waiting time. An amazing Doctor whom I fully endorse and would give 10/10 for overall patient care.  I sincerely hope our paths cross again but under different circumstances.

I have been under the care of Dr Abbas for over three years since I was diagnosed with parathyroid cancer. In that time I have seen him on a regular basis due to recurring hypercalcaemia. Whenever I have an appointment the clinics run to time yet I never feel like I am being hurried in and out. He always has time to listen and answer any queries I may have. When I had an issue getting some medication Dr Abbas wrote to my Gp and put systems in place to ensure the problems didn't happen again. I have recently been discharged from hospital after an almost three month stay due to hypercalcemia, surgery and then hungry bone syndrome. During my stay Dr Abbas ensured I had an up to date plan for the nursing staff to follow and arranged for me to go home for a few hours on Christmas day which was much welcomed by myself and my family. I have always felt that Dr Abbas is an excellent consultant who does everything in his power to help me with my health issues. He is always very honest, which I like and need, we discuss what action needs to be taken and he chases up other staff who may kit have responded. I could go on but basically Dr Abbas has made my health journey a much easier one by being a major part of it. I would, and have, recommend him to anyone needing assistance in this field. Myself and my family will always be grateful for the way he has cared for me.
