Had severe back pain and stranded far from my own GP. Had to call 111 before they would see me despite 111 advice saying they should book direct. They made me come in two hours before appointment to "register", absolutely refused to do over the phone - not a single detail was needed beyond do what they had already asked and didn't even need to sign the form so absolutely no reason why couldn't be completed by receptionist over the phone. Was in significant pain so coming in twice was unreasonable. I was told I could phone round other practices to see if they could register me differently so it clearly is a practice policy - receptionist was rude about getting appointment and obstructive from start to finish.

I hear horror stories in the press about the service available at GP Surgeries, but I have had dealings with Beversbrook (and Church Street before that) for almost thirty years. I find the receptionists helpful, attentitive, polite and patient. The doctors I have dealt with have all been understanding and professional and the atmosphere and whole experience is very good. There is one minor irritation which I am sure is down to procedure. Each year I am called in for a medication review. This always results in blood tests which I need another appointment for. Then I need another appointment with a nurse to review the results... which I have already viewed on line and which show as good, if borderline. The nurse then requests repeat tests, which requires another appointment and show the same borderline but acceptable results. Another appointment is then necessary to talk again to the doctor... who voices surprise that the test needed repeating as they are OK. Seems perverse for me to complain about too MUCH treatment, but each time this appears to waste both mine, and surely more importantly, the medical staff's time. But, thanks to everyone at Beversbrook Surgery. If I can avoid twice as many trips than necessary next year... while continuing to enjoy the excellent service you offer... I think everyone is doing a great job here in very challenging circumstances.

I have never left a review online before but feel after my latest experience I really wanted too. I have always been happy with the service I receive from Beversbrook, especially Dr Church and Dr Astin who I have seen a few times regarding myself and my son. The weekend just gone I was in a lot of pain with tonsillitis and contacted the surgery first thing on the Monday. I wasn't expecting an appointment soon due to the snow and difficulties with people getting to work, however I was offered an appointment that morning with a very helpful nurse who was very confident and knowledgeable and although she couldn't prescribe me abtibiotics she sent her request to Dr Church who approved this. Understandably the surgery was very busy due to catch up but Dr Church approved the request within the hour so that I could pick the prescription up and go home to rest. I later had some questions regarding the antibiotics therefore contacted the surgery. The receptionist took the details and called me back the same day with clear answers. I wanted to give a review as I feel all of the staff work together very well and treat their patients with care and dignity they deserve but I feel they worked extra well that day and in return should be recognised for this considering all the added pressures they had that particular day. Thank you to Beversbrook!

I never have a problem obtaining an appointment however I rang for my 3 year old who had a temperature and not very well with a sore throat, not eating or drinking, but the receptionist would not book an emergency appointment, he also has a heart condition and she still would not put an appointment in, she was extremely unhelpful and quite rude. I understand you get time wasters however when my son was 3 weeks old i was unable to get an appointment and turned out his pulse was 300 and Dr church had to call an ambulance! So Dr church has said he will always see him, so when this receptionist would not see him it was extremely unhelpful.. however Dr church rang and asked us to come in straight away which I did and was given antibiotics, so the receptionist really should not be turning children away regardless whether its 8am or 5.30pm, as children can deteriorate quickly.

Response from Beversbrook Medical Centre

Thanks for this - it's very helpful to hear your veiws and I am sorry to hear that you feel we let you down on this occasion. I would be very interested to speak to you further on this and have the opportunity to investigate this matter to help us improve our service for the future. We do try as much as possible to make sure that people have access to a doctor on the same day when this is requested wherever possible. We do triage our on the day appointments through our Doctor Link service to ensure that patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician in a timely manner and children can use this symptom checker from the age of three years old. When we have no available appointments the GP is able to call the patients back and can make the decision as to whether or not to see them outside of their clinic times, if they feel it is appropriate. I am pleased that your son got same day treatment and that the matter was resolved but I am sorry to hear your comments about the member of staff you spoke to. I hope to hear from you soon so that I can look into this for you in more detail - I can be contacted at emmybutcher@nhs.net. Many thanks - Emmy Butcher, Managing Partner
