I attended Addenbrooke's Hospital in August 2022 for pancreatic surgery under the care of Mr Siong Seng Liau. His skill and expertise in carrying out the keyhole operation was excellent and even more so, was his genuine care, concern and attention during my recovery in hospital and during clinic consultations afterwards. He has a really human approach, explaining everything - good or bad - in a clear and empathetic way which inspires trust and confidence in the medical procedures and outcomes. I feel very lucky and thankful to have had Mr Liau as my Consultant and could not have wished for anyone better to carry out this major surgery. In fact his whole team of dedicated NHS staff, from Doctors, Specialist HPB Nurses to Admin were all a pleasure to deal with, an asset to Addenbrooke's Hospital and a credit to the wonderful NHS.

What an amazing man in general who was polite, courteous and an amazing surgeon. He took on my case where others had said it was not possible for surgery and operated on me for 12 hours then a further 5 hours, he never gave up on my and visited the ward almost every day for the 9 weeks that I was on the wards. He greeted me with warmth and a welcome handshake at every outpatient appointment and has helped to save my live. I will be forever grateful to him and his team at Addenbrookes hospital for there skills and hard work. Thankyou Mr Liau from John Smith, your 1 in a million chance of surviving pancreatic cancer patient. I will never forget you and for believing in me.

I have nothing but praise for the care and attention I received from Mr Siong Seng Liau, Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge. In July 2022 I had a huge liver cyst removed by him and his team. Mr Liau inspired enormous confidence by his calm and kindly demeanor, ability to explain very clearly and in detail what the results of the MRI scan indicated, exactly what the surgery would involve, and how long I would need for recuperation. The consultation was not rushed and all my queries and anxieties were dispelled by his clear precise and succinct answers about what was about to happen to me. This was very reassuring and helped me enormously during the comparatively short wait I had between the consultation and the surgery itself. Mr Liau's work is very neat. I have almost no scars- the largest incision in my navel will soon be completely gone - It seems to have been sewn with 'invisible mending' from the inside. Thank you. A follow up CT scan in a year has been arranged by him which is also reassuring and makes me feel very cared for. During surgery the team also noted possible signs of breast cancer which they alerted me to - The signs they noted are in fact due to something completely benign, but again this observation and attention to detail made me not only feel very cared for, but was a clear indication of how competent the team is under Mr Liau. My pain has disappeared and I feel a very lucky woman to have had Mr Liau as my surgeon.

My experience has been nothing but brilliant. Mr Liau gave us the utmost confidence right from our first meeting. He was totally honest with us regarding my condition, the seriousness of the proposed procedure (Whipples) and the risks and rewards of this solution. All the facts were clearly explained to me and my wife and although we left the meeting with significant concerns we felt that we now understood the majority of issues and the solutions I believed after meeting Mr Liau that he was the right person to perform my major surgery and I had no hesitation in trusting Mr Liau with my future.

Amazing Surgical Expertise and Post Operative Care for HPB patients. After having a follow up call with Mr Siong-Seng Liau, some 6 years since emergency surgery to deal with a splenic artery aneurism (and splentectomy), and follow up surgery 18 months later, for a pancreoduodectomy (after he had noticed a tumour on my duodenum during the initial emergency surgery !) I want to take this opportunity to say that the care that I have received at Addenbrookes (and subsequent annual monitoring) has been superb. Based on the outcome of my operations I consider Mr Liau and his surgical team to be the best in the world. In addition, the post-operative ICU and HPB ward doctors and nursing teams were amazing as are the CT and MRI teams whom I still visit for scans on an annual basis. NHS (and Mr Liau) you are truly amazing.
