I saw Mr Chan in relation to a broken clavicle as a result of a being knocked off my bike by a car. During my consultation, Mr Chan was very keen to understand my level of activity so that he could formulate a plan to allow me to return to that level. Given I am keen triathlete (competing in distances up to Ironman) it was reassuring to hear that Mr Chan not only wanted to fix my injury but also help me return to my previous triathlon level. Ultimately it was decided that an operation would be best as I had fractured my clavicle distally and it was displaced. It was therefore unlikely that my clavicle would heal of its own accord such that I would be able to return to my normal level/volume of swimming. Despite my initial surgery being unfortunately cancelled (NB - due to circumstances beyond Mr Chan's control), and the rescheduled surgery falling during a period of annual leave, Mr Chan went above and beyond by rearranging his time so that he could see me before my operation (to explain what would be done), carry out the surgery and even come down and check everything was alright post-surgery. I am truly grateful for this. As I write this today, I am just under 4 months post surgery and in the last ~3 months I've swam >140km. It is safe to say that Mr Chan has done a fantastic job and I managed to return to my usual level of activity. I might have a plate and 9 screws on/in my clavicle - but the fact that I barely notice it now is probably the best review/recommendation I can give.

I ruptured my pectoral muscle from weight lifting and was left in agony for 4 weeks being pushed from pillar to post by A&E doctors. Almost giving up, I was given Dr Chan’s details by a kind staff member. I spoke to Dr Chan, explaining the situation and not only did he keenly listen, he offered to see me immediately and booked me in for surgery a week later. Dr Chan was extremely knowledgeable during the consultation and showed a lot of empathy and kindness, unfortunately a rare sight in the medical field nowadays. The surgery went well and Dr Chan saw me for a follow up appointment. I highly recommend Dr Chan to anybody who wants a Dr that is committed to his work and actually cares for his patients.

A truly exceptional physician who shows remarkable dedication and commitment to his patients' wellbeing. From the moment I walked into his office, I felt welcomed and cared for. He took the time to listen to my concerns and answer all my questions with patience and understanding. He provided me with a clear diagnosis and treatment plan, explaining each step of the way and making sure that I understood everything. He accurately diagnosed my condition and operated on my arm , which has helped me to manage my injury and improve my quality of life. His compassionate and caring demeanour made a significant difference in my experience as his patient. He always treated me with respect, empathy, and kindness, making me feel comfortable and at ease during every visit. I am grateful for the level of care that he provided me and the positive impact that he made on my health and wellbeing. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a skilled and compassionate surgeon.

Following a rather nasty injury and having been admitted to my local hospital and then discharged home , in the same predicament, I was in a very vulnerable state. However I had an appointment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham to see Mr Chan. I had been visited by an Orthopaedic Consultant…..Mr Knox, who had said that he wanted Mr Chan to take on my surgery. He spoke incredibly highly of Mr Chan, both in terms of his skill, expertise and experience but indeed, as a person too. This filled me with hope and faith, even before meeting him. My injury certainly wasn’t the normal and I had fractured my right arm and also fractured my elbow into many pieces. (A comminuted intra-articulate distal numerous fracture with olecranon fracture) I needed a full elbow replacement. Mr Chan filled me with hope at our first meeting and I immediately felt respected and listened to. I felt not only confident in terms of his clear knowledge of my injury but i also felt that he was interested in me and how this injury was impacting on my life and how I live it. He was also completely transparent and open about the risks of this surgery . I felt safe and at ease. I believed he wanted me to continue living my life to the full. Mr Chan has just the right balance of knowledge and kindness. He shares all information calmly and professionally . My surgery and follow up care has been excellent . One little additional memory that will always stay with me, is of a visit to me by Mr Chan, on the ward post surgery. I was rather uncomfortable and he simply removed his jacket and helped me to gain a better position in the bed. Such compassion from a Consultant was wonderful.
