As a result of an ultrasound and CT scan, a 2.6 cm lesion was found on my left kidney. I had an initial consultation with Mr Peter Acher, Consultant Urological Surgeon at London Bridge, who subsequently referred me to Mr Barod, a leading specialist and Consultant Urological Surgeon. Mr Barod explained in great detail my options available and even drew a diagram for me to understand more clearly. I decided on a biopsy to start with and as a result of that, went on to opt for the robotic partial nephrectomy. Before the procedure, he explained it all very thoroughly, step by step, as well as any possible complications and I was completely put at ease and reassured. The operation took place on 4 November after which he kindly called my husband to say I was out of theatre and it had gone well. I spent one night in hospital and he came to check up on me the following day and arranged a follow up appointment. Whilst at home recovering, I became slightly anxious about one of the incisions and dropped him an email querying this. Mr Barod promptly responded with an explanation and I was reassured once again. I am eternally grateful for the treatment I have received from Mr Barod, a true professional in his field and a very kind and caring gentleman.

Following a CT scan on 31st July, a small 2cm mass was found in my left kidney and the recommendation was to rule out a papillary neoplasm. After much research, I sought a private consultation with Mr Barod at the Royal Free. Mr Barod is a leading kidney oncologist and is highly skilled in surgical procedures - particularly robotic - for the removal of kidney tumours. More importantly, he carries out such procedures in volume which no doubt has helped develop his skills to a very high level to tackle many different types of tumours. This gave me the additional reassurance I was seeking and I knew he was absolutely the right consultant for me and my diagnosis. Mr Barod carried out my partial nephrectomy on 2nd November and I have recovered well from my procedure. As well as being a highly competent surgeon, he also happens to be a lovely man. Patient well-being is his key concern, not only in terms of the physical but also mental during this stressful time. When I walked into his office for the first consultation I was lost and deeply worried. He immediately reassured me that I was not in any immediate danger and then went on at length to explain my condition and the options that were available to me. This included a review of the CT scan itself to show me the location of the kidney mass. The key aspect here was the knowledge I gained from Mr Barod helped to alleviate the extreme anxiety I was feeling. He was then prepared to give me as much time as I needed to make a decision. Following the operation, he personally called my son to say I was out of the operating theatre and the surgery went well. This was a lovely touch and showed his character and genuine care for his patients. For my two nights stay in the Royal Free, he visited often to check how I was doing and spoke at length about the next steps. He was also there on Saturday morning when I was discharged and made sure my medicine was pre-ordered from the hospital pharmacy so I was ready to go. Believe me, I once waited 6 hours with my daughter for her to be discharged because the hospital pharmacy was very busy so this again was a lovely touch. I can genuinely, say in Mr Barod you have a consultant who is a leader in his field and a person of great integrity and kindness. I am just ever so grateful I found him to help me.

Dr Ravi completed my surgery on 8 Sept 2023, I had been suffering from AKD for some time. The operating went smoothly and without any problems and because of way Dr Ravi operated my recovery time was amazingly quick so much so that I only had to spend one night in hospital and only 4 weeks from work before everything was back to normal. Such a lovely man and can't thank him enough.

I had my surgery at Royal Free Hospital and Mr Ravi Barod was my surgeon. My experience was great right from pre operative to post operative period. I was really pleased when he came to the Anaesthetic room, just before having my Anaesthesia, to say hello and reassure me about my operation - that gesture really meant a lot to me! He also personally called me with the good news , after four weeks, that I was cleared ! What also impressed me is that I had little pain after surgery and pain killers was no longer needed after two days. My wound has also healed perfectly well.
