His detailed explanations and taking care that I understood everything greatly impressed me as I prepared for the operation, an inguinal hernia. He took time to ensure that I new the risks and postoperative care so that I had every confidence in deciding to go ahead in his obviously very capable hands. His demeanour and calm, authorities tone, both over our telephone consultations and in the ward reinforced my confidence.

Mr Chitsabesan is a very polite, well spoken doctor. Excellent treatment before, during and after my surgery. My scar has healed nicely, I have suffered no ill effects post operation. I cant thank him enough.

I feel Mr Chitsabesan was probably the best surgeon I could have had at the time. I felt that everything went better than I could have expected. My wife and I were always confident that the treatment I received was the best I could have had. Everything from my diagnosis to the actual operation was explained to me excellently so I knew every detail of my operation to my recovery. I feel very grateful to Mr Chitsabesan.

Mr Chitsabesan oozes positive optimism and this transfers to the patient as massively reassuring, especially, when, in a case like mine, cancer has been diagnosed. He was quite clear that the NHS in York Hospital would provide me with the professional care I would need in order to proceed with major surgery. He outlined very clearly what would be required without being patronising and I came away from the first pre-op consultation feeling that I was in safe hands. It also helps that he smiles a lot, makes good eye contact and appears relaxed. My op went well, and I am now on the road to making a good recovery, exercising daily as he emphasised throughout our discussions would be necessary. I felt, and still feel, that he made it clear to me that I had to do my 'bit' if this operation was to succeed. I found that very empowering and the shared responsibility he stressed has enabled me to recover because I set myself daily goals to achieve (however small). Both my husband and myself felt that Mr Chitsabesan is dedicated to his patients and that we could entrust him (and the NHS) with my life.

I first met Mr Chitsabeson & Dr Lin at my assessment appointment, where he considerately listened to what was needed and my concerns. Arranging to have Mr Lin in attendance for the operation, if required. A great deal of information was exchanged at that appointment and after explanations Mr Chitsabeson gave me the options open to me. We agreed that he would make the decision on the best option 'on the day', taking into account the damage and my chronic health limitations. My planned operation had been postponed due to various reasons 4 or 5 times. The next scheduled date was 16th March 2020 - THE week of lockdown. I fully expected it to be deferred again. I wasn't and it went ahead with a positive outcome. Lockdown and Covid meant the post-op discussion has only just taken place, by telephone and not in person which was disappointing as I had wanted to be able to meet him to pass on my grateful thanks. He has a lovely clam manner that instils confidence. He listens to everything and will take time with you. I feel very happy that he was my surgeon!! Thank you.
