Mr Chitsabesan oozes positive optimism and this transfers to the patient as massively reassuring, especially, when, in a case like mine, cancer has been diagnosed. He was quite clear that the NHS in York Hospital would provide me with the professional care I would need in order to proceed with major surgery. He outlined very clearly what would be required without being patronising and I came away from the first pre-op consultation feeling that I was in safe hands. It also helps that he smiles a lot, makes good eye contact and appears relaxed. My op went well, and I am now on the road to making a good recovery, exercising daily as he emphasised throughout our discussions would be necessary. I felt, and still feel, that he made it clear to me that I had to do my 'bit' if this operation was to succeed. I found that very empowering and the shared responsibility he stressed has enabled me to recover because I set myself daily goals to achieve (however small). Both my husband and myself felt that Mr Chitsabesan is dedicated to his patients and that we could entrust him (and the NHS) with my life.
