Mr MN Bittar

I am a cardiothoracic surgeon, my practice is mixed. In cardiac surgery I have a special interest in aortic surgery, minimally invasive aortic surgery, I also perform the general cardiac operations ( CABG, OPCAB and valve surgery). In thoracic surgery, I deal with chest wall, lung, pleural and mediastinal surgical diseases. I have special interest in the minimally invasive approach (video assisted thoracoscopic procedures-VATS lobectomy) and fractured ribs fixation. I am interested in research; my qualification is a Medical Doctorate M.D. from Manchester University in 2007. My thesis was based on inflammatory response to the use of cardiopulmonary bypass in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This response was linked to certain genotypes of a certain polymorphisms. My current affiliation is with the University of Salford, I am collaborating with researchers studying the myocardial cell dysfunction, the inflammatory response and its effect on the conduits that used in cardiac surgery.Recently I was appointed as honorary professor @ the University of Salford.

Mr Bittar operated to replace the aortic arch and a valve. It was explained to me that it would be a major job (7-8 hours) but survival expectation was good. At 75 years of age one wondered whether it should be undertaken. However everything was gone through in detail with Mr Bittar and his anaesthetist which gave confidence to proceed. The care I received post op was second to none with constant attention by Mr Bittar and nursing staff. After being very weak initially my strength soon began to return and I was allowed home after 10 days. Blackpool Vic is justifiably know as a centre of excellence and rightly so in my experience. Anyone facing surgery should be assured that they will get the best of care and can trust the surgical team to provide it. My thanks to them all. 2018

Mr Bittar is an experienced professional and I had total trust in him from the beginning. I think some people may consider him a little direct in his manner but I loved that: I knew the problem, what he was going to do about it and, more importantly for me, his confidence in successfully sorting it out. The operation was a complete success, the wounds healed quickly and the scars are neat. I was back at work four weeks after a lower right lung lobectomy (my job isn't physically demanding) as I was really keen to put all the worries/fear behind me and get back to normal. Mr Bittar and his team couldn't have been more professional. With all my heart, Thank you.

I had a cancer removed from my lung by Mr Bittar in January. All I can say is what a first class doctor and all round nice guy. The scars he left are really small for a major operation. His follow up after the op was also first class and he is one of the rare doctors who will explain things to you but also listen to your concerns. Thanks Mr Bittar for saving my life. I will be forever grateful
