I am deeply grateful to Professor Bittar for his exceptional care and expertise. Not only did he successfully complete a very complicated open-heart surgery, but his approach leading up to the procedure gave me complete confidence in his abilities. He took the time to thoroughly review and explain all of my test results, carefully evaluating whether surgery was truly necessary. His ability to balance medical knowledge with genuine concern for my well-being made all the difference. Thanks to his skill and dedication, my surgery and recovery have gone extremely well. I could not have asked for a more capable or compassionate surgeon, and I highly recommend him to anyone in need of cardiac care.

In November 2022 my heart was unfortunately attacked a virus which left my aortic and tricuspid valve in need of repair. I struggled to walk and was continually breathless after this attack but tried to recover some of the fitness I had lost but eventually realised i was fighting a losing battle. I slowly worsened over the next 18 months but was then referred by my Mr Khan my Cardiologist over to Professor Bittar who discussed a treatment plan and immediately made me feel reassured. On May the 17th 2025 my heart was repaired. I was treated with kindness and respect throughout the whole process and cannot thank all the team enough who have given me my life back. I am now just 10 weeks post surgery and already back to a relatively normal life with every day becoming easier. Thankyou again Martin C

After undergoing a comprehensive evaluation involving appointments, tests, scans, and X-rays at both Chorley and Preston hospitals, I was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer. Subsequently, arrangements were made for a lobectomy to be performed by Professor Bittar at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on November 26, 2024. Throughout the surgical procedure and the subsequent period of recovery, I received exceptional care from every individual involved and cannot praise them highly enough. From the hugely skilled theatre team, the highly professional staff of the intensive care unit and the dedicated nurses in ward 38 I experienced the most wonderful attention . Quite simply, I was overwhelmed with kindness and care of the highest degree and would like to thank all involved.

In February 2023 I suffered a heart attack and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital. I was immediately in the care of a cardiac team. I had various tests and an angiogram which showed I needed a triple bypass. Unfortunately this couldn't be done at that time due to a clot in my heart. I was taken to a ward and put under the care of Professor Bittar and his team and what a team they are. On first meeting Professor Bittar i knew I was in safe hands. I was listened to and talked through my condition and instantly put at ease although the clot remained a worry. I spent several months on medication to disperse the clot and had regular hospital appointments for scans etc. In May 2024 I had my operation which was done by Professor Bittar. He is a true professional with exceptional skills and I would have no hesitation whatsoever to recommend him. Before my operation I had my pre operation checkup I met Dr Watson who was to be the anaesthetist for my operation. He talked me through everything that was to happen, it was very reassuring, his care continued after the operation whilst I was in CITU as did Professor Bittars I must also mention Professor Bittars team, these people listen, they care, they treat and are highly skilled. Professor Bittar is a credit to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and the NHS. Everyone I came into contact with went that extra mile, not only that but they did it with compassion and were always ready to listen. I spent a few days in CITU and received round the clock care by the most dedicated people I have ever met. From there I had a couple of days on Ward 38 and again the care was exceptional. Thank you one and all for your care, you are all true professionals and should be very proud of what you do and achieve. I am certainly proud of each and every one of you. You have given me a new lease of life.

Specialises in

Profile

I am a cardiothoracic surgeon, my practice is mixed. In cardiac surgery I have a special interest in aortic surgery, minimally invasive aortic surgery, I also perform the general cardiac operations ( CABG, OPCAB and valve surgery). In thoracic surgery, I deal with chest wall, lung, pleural and mediastinal surgical diseases. I have special interest in the minimally invasive approach (video assisted thoracoscopic procedures-VATS lobectomy) and fractured ribs fixation.
I am interested in research; my qualification is a Medical Doctorate M.D. from Manchester University in 2007. My thesis was based on inflammatory response to the use of cardiopulmonary bypass in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This response was linked to certain genotypes of a certain polymorphisms.
My current affiliation is with the University of Salford, I am collaborating with researchers studying the myocardial cell dysfunction, the inflammatory response and its effect on the conduits that used in cardiac surgery.Recently I was appointed as a professor (Hon)@ the University of Salford.
