I am always wary of doctors having sustained a life changing injury through medical negligence in the past. Mr Zambarakji was recommended by my Optician and my GP. He quickly put me at ease, was very thorough in examination and explained the treatment I needed (Cataracts in both eyes) and the likely timing. As I am a 'high risk' patient he arranged for an Anaesthetist to be present. I was feeling a bit wound up as I was taken to theatre for the first operation, which I opted to have under local anaesthetic without sedation. I needn't have worried. There was relaxing music playing. The theatre staff ensured that I was lying comfortably, Mr Zambarakji checked with me throughout whether I was OK and gave me clear instructions. I didn't feel a thing! Half an hour later I was helped to sit up and already my sight was clear and I could read notices on the wall.. I had a follow up consultation with Mr Zambarakji a few days later and, as all was well, an appointment was booked for the second operation. This time, I was completely calm, the operation went really smoothly once more and , despite this being only a few days ago, I can now see clearly with both eyes and without glasses. I'll need to apply drops for another 3 weeks and will have a final consultation with him then to ensure there are no problems. The whole course of treatment is in line with what he explained. He has been patient and kind throughout, he clearly commands the respect of those that work with him and regard him as highly skilled. His support team is very knowledgable and caring too and so he comes as a 'complete package' with team. I recommend him highly.

My clinical interests include Vitreoretinal and small incision cataract surgery, as well as medical retina. This includes diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous (retinal detachment surgery), diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disease and macular degeneration.
