Gavin Robertson successfully performed inguinal hernia repairs on both my husband and my son recently, and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anybody needing such surgery. I found him to be caring and very easy to talk to, whilst maintaining a professional manner. He had a visible presence throughout their 24hr stay - both 'pre' and 'post' surgery - and took time out to explain in simple terms the different surgical options, along with reasons for undertaking the keyhole alternative with a general anaesthetic.

I consulted Gavin Robertson over a groin hernia and he subsequently performed the surgery. From my experience Gavin Robertson provides the highest level of patient care and surgical expertise for this condition. My GP provided the names of three surgeons to consider for a referral and to explore with BUPA. He suggested that no one specialises in hernia repair particularly. However, following some research on the three, Gavin Robertson stood out as someone who clearly did specialise in this area and was leading in his field having published in the medical literature on the subject and conducted over 3500 hernia operations. He also uses key hole surgery and mesh support materials to prevent recurrence. At the consultation he was clear, informative, pleasant and professional. In addition to the overt hernia he diagnosed a weakness on the other side and a small umbilical hernia and elected to correct all three. He was willing to answer questions about the techniques he would use. On the day of the operation he explained clearly how the operation would proceed and the chance (low) of needing to make a larger incision. He also explained what after effects there might be following the operation. I felt I was well briefed by him at the consultation and on the day of the operation about the speed of recovery, chance of recurrence and guided and reassured about what I could do after the operation. The operation went very smoothly and I was particularly impressed by the very small size of the incisions. The anaesthetic was very well controlled by Andrew Hall and had no after effects at all. I was able to go home the same day and was reasonably active the next day. Recovery proceeded as he predicted and I felt largely fine again within a week. I rode my bike shortly after and felt better around my abdomen than I had when doing this previously. I had a follow up consultation which confirmed all was well. Overall I felt that Gavin Robertson was an excellent consultant and surgeon for hernia repair.

after consultation with Mr Robertson, I found him absolutely charming. he made me feel very relaxed and confident in my forthcoming operation on my gallbladder. On the day of my operation I felt calm and relaxed by all the staff at Nuffield hospital. including Mr Robertson and the Anethetist. My after care was excellent and cant thank the staff enough. I'm amazed at the quick recovery I have had from keyhole surgery and would recommend it if possible to anyone.

I am 'so' glad that I found Mr. Robertson! In my view, he is not only a very skilled surgeon with extensive experience but he also offered me hope and I had complete trust in him. I had a large incisional hernia which was causing me pain and was affecting my mobility. I was afraid, as prior to meeting Mr. Robertson, the medical professionals were advising me that the only way forward was to have open surgery which I wanted to avoid. When I read Mr. Robertsons profile and his patients reviews I instinctively felt that he was the surgeon for me. This was certainly confirmed when I met him. He took time to explain that my hernia was 'uncommon' and helped me to understand the complexities around repairing it. He was willing to perform keyhole surgery and on hearing this, I felt a huge sense of relief! He is calm with a softly spoken voice which in turn, helped 'me' to feel calm. He has an ability to make you feel that you are important to him. (and I believe this is genuine) He also explained that immediately after surgery, I would have considerable pain but in time this would cease. Thank you to Mr. Robertson as my surgery was a success! His after care continued to be professional and attentive. He took time to explain my recovery and what to expect. I would highly reccomend Mr. Robertson!
