Words can’t express, the admiration I have for Mr Bishay. In September 2020, through a completely unrelated incident, I was diagnosed with lung cancer. Obviously, the news came as a great shock, as there had been no prior symptoms, and aged 72 was very frightened. However Mr Bishay assured me that my condition was curable, as it was diagnosed, at a very early stage. Although we were in the middle of a pandemic, he arranged surgery swiftly. I was in hospital for six days, and he visited me each day, giving me reassurance, and settling my mind. Even after returning home, he was in regular contact, and I was able to get in touch direct, should I have any concerns. His professionalism, and caring attitude is beyond question. He was also of great comfort to my husband, during this extremely worrying time. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Bishay, he is an exceptional surgeon, and a most caring man.
I would also like to thank all his team, and the staff on the Bourneville ward, at the Priory Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham.

It was coincidentally discovered that I had lung cancer in my left lung during an investigation that was entirely unrelated. This was around the time of the peak of Covid - 19 so resources were understandably stretched for anything respiratory connected. However, following due process the diagnosis was confirmed by my oncologist who referred me to Mr Bishay. His secretary explained that face to face visits could not currently take place so an appointment was made for a phone call, at the beginning of which Mr Bishay invited my wife to be involved. He then outlined in great detail what paths could be taken and the pros and cons of each. I opted for a lobectomy which he would perform. The overwhelming result of this call for both my wife and myself was a huge uplift in both confidence and optimism. Thereafter all arrangements took place seamlessly and Mr Bishay introduced himself immediately before the surgery, once again reinforcing the confidence factor. He personally followed this up on each day whilst I was at the Priory, and also since I have been home, to confirm the biopsies showed no further cause for concern. From my initial introduction I have found Mr Bishay very calming and easy to engage with, which for me was an important part of the process and I would unhesitatingly recommend anyone requiring surgery into his care. I will remain very grateful to him.

I was diagnosed with left lung and kidney cancer in April 2014 at Heartlands Hospital. Was seen by Mr Bishay who advised he could need to remove the lung and colleagues would sort out the kidney. Our conversation was very open and Mr Bishay explained the pros and cons and after the initial shock was so honest in answering my concerns. As a result, we agreed the operation could take place. So in May, I underwent an 8 hour operation at The Priory Hospital to have the lung removed.
My recuperation was slow but 6 years later, I am exercising well and have been cleared of the cancer that was in my lung and Kidney. Mr Bishay to me is a hero. He saved my life and has a sense of humour and we had some laughs. I owe the man my life and so happy he has the talent to do more. Thank you to a kind and gentle man.

I recently had a upper left lobectomy preformed by Mr Bishay as a consequence of Lung Cancer . From our first meeting he was attentive , informative and utterly professional in helping us deal with the situation.He visited me everyday for the 5 days I was on the Bourneville ward giving encouragement and helping me get through the initial post operative phase. All the staff were exceptional, from cleaners , catering, nursing staff, physio,s ,Doctors and a heart felt thanks goes out to them.

My partner recently on the 27th March had a lung cancer operation.The care and professionalism from Mr Bishay and the staff of the Priory hospital was fantastic. We have been fully informed from the start and even though he has been at home recovering for the last 19 days we have received regular calls to monitor his progress. We are also undergoing the next stage of the process which has been organised by Mr Bishay and for all he has done for us we are truly grateful.

Ehab S Bishay qualified in 1992 from St. Bartholomew’s Medical College, London, with honours colours of the college. He then completed his basic surgical training in London gaining his general Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. He spent two and a half years in full time research in the premiere American Cardiothoracic Centre, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, being awarded his Master of Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the work he performed there.
He then entered specialist Cardiothoracic training on the West Midlands rotation gaining his specialist Fellowship of the Cardiothoracic Surgeons of England, FRCS (C-Th), and then shortly afterwards was allowed onto the Specialist Cardiothoracic register in 2006. He was appointed as Consultant Thoracic Surgeon to the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital where he has held this position since 2007. There he previously led the lung cancer services, and leads on training as the regional training programme director for Cardiothoracic Surgery for the West Midlands deanery.
He is the co-chair and lead Thoracic surgeon organiser on the internationally recognised Birmingham Review Course in Cardiothoracic surgery. He is also a regular faculty member on a number of Royal college of surgeons of England, Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons courses.
He is the Royal College of Surgeons of England Regional specialist professional affairs advisor for Cardiothoracic surgery for the West Midlands as well as a College assessor. He practices all aspects of adult thoracic surgery with a specialist interest in superior sulcus tumours, tracheal surgery, sleeve resections, as well as VATs Lobectomies. He is a keen innovator and recently implanted the UK's first 3D printed breast bone implant in a patient with a large breast bone defect.
