My wife has experienced autoimmune type problems for many years which have resulted in chronic health problems of joint deterioration and extreme sensitivity to medications. These have necessitated a number of operations (in excess of 8) all of which have resulted in difficulties during and after the procedures. Only the second most recent operation, performed in November 2022 by Mr Kaliaperumal and his team, has been fully and successfully managed from start to finish. Mr Kaliaperumal took the time and great care to give all options and sound reasons for the procedure with full reassurance, given the obvious anxieties caused by previous experiences. Other team members only reinforced the feeling that this time everything would be under control and managed during the pre-op appt and on the day of operation itself. The successful operation was followed by a period of inpatient recovery during which the standard of care was exceptional. There were inevitable complications with anaesthesia and pain management but for the first time these had all been fully anticipated and were properly managed. I believe that the success of this operation and the recovery my wife experienced was due entirely to the expertise and professionalism of Mr Kaliaperumal, his anaesthetist Dr Steel and the entire team which supported them. It is obvious that the two doctors not only took the time to listen to my wife’s history and to formulate a plan anticipating her needs and potential complications but they very effectively communicated this plan to the whole team, resulting in a very successful patient journey. For my wife this has meant the most effective pain management yet with the swiftest recovery and for me this has been the least traumatic experience as a helpless observer. I cannot fault the service given by Mr Kaliaperumal and his team and I would commend this to anyone.

Prior to surgery Mr Kaliaperumal gave me a full explanation and reassurance about the procedure he was to perform (ACDF) and although this was a daunting prospect I felt confident and happy to proceed because of his knowledge and professionalism. The surgery was as described and the care from Mr Kaliaperumal and the entire team was faultless.

Mr Kaliaperumal was a fantastic surgeon. He listened, responded & successfully removed a large tumour from my front left lobe. I would highly recommend this surgeon.

I experienced amazing care and attention from Mr Kaliaperumal and the entire neurosurgery team. I was admitted to the Western General Hospital because I was struggling to walk and could not feel my legs. A MRI scan showed I had a meningioma tumour on my spine. Mr Kaliaperumal was very honest with me and took his time to discuss and explain what was involved in operating on me and the risks of a operation (could be paralysed) and the lengthy recovery but also the fact the tumour would paralysis me if he did not operate. I right away felt that he genuinely cared about me and he treated me as an individual, he made me feel like I was the only patient he had. I really felt I was in good hands and I trusted him 110%. I was right to trust him, the operation was a success and the tumour was removed. My recovery has been slow but steady(as he said) Mr Kaliaperumal has encouraged and pushed me during outpatient appointments or phone calls. I can walk again, have my independence and my life back. I am internally grateful to Mr Kaliaperumal and his team

I just wanted to mention my gratitude to Mr Kaliaperumal, Dr White and the entire clinical neurosurgery team at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. I started to talk “nonsense” whilst out for lunch and my wife and three month year old daughter. My wife called the ambulance that arrived about 20 minutes after we called. Turns out I had a Colloid Cyst causing Hydrocephalus. Mr Kaliaperumal was informed of my arrival at A&E and kept track of the progress. I had two operations: i) to insert an external ventricle drain, ii) to remove the cyst. Mr Kaliaperumal and the team carefully planned the operation and communicated with my wife throughout. The nurses were outstanding and I was provided with a private room. Because I was confused, I was given 24 hour care after the operation. The cyst was fully removed and I am now in perfect health and enjoying time with my young daughter. I am extremely grateful for the care I received and the recovery I was able to make. Further to this, I just wanted to thank the wider team who not only provided me with great care but had the patience and support to help me through.
