Dr Karunakaran introduced himself when I arrived and explained what the procedure involved and approximately how long it should take. I chose not to have sedation and avoided the gas and air so Dr Karunakaran was able to explain each step he was taking, whether any thing had been identified and whether I would feel any discomfort. At the end, I was informed of how the procedure went, was given a summary report and advised next steps with likely timescale. Patient care was excellent the whole time.

Dr Karunakaran was immediately welcoming and calming. He listened to my medical history and concerns and was reassuring and helpful. Having a colonoscopy is understandably embarrassing and anxiety inducing and his manner and explanation of the procedure made it much less so. I was actually very relaxed even without a sedative. Dr Karunakaran talked me through what was on the screen and when a polyp was found explained it's size and how likely it was to be cancer or not. I felt well informed about the whole procedure. I am incredibly grateful to him and the nurses and feel they all deserve a pay rise quite frankly.
