Dr. Liju Ahmed FRCP is a consultant Respiratory Physician at Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation trust. He is a specialist in the treatment of Respiratory diseases: Pleural disease – benign, malignant and infections; Pleural interventions – Ultrasound guided pleural procedures, Indwelling pleural catheter, thoracoscopy level 1 and 2; Pulmonary interventions – bronchoscopy, diathermy, cryotherapy, tumour debulking, stenting, airways dilatation; Lung cancer; COPD and Asthma; Severe airways disease; Endobronchial Lung volume reduction; Respiratory autoimmune disease; Breathlessness; General respiratory conditions.

Dr Ahmed is currently the clinical lead for pleural disease and pulmonary interventions at Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation trust. Following his training he was appointed as a consultant at Guys and St. Thomas NHS foundation in 2009. Dr. Ahmed set up the first and currently only comprehensive medical pleural disease service in London.

His research interest is in pleural disease and interventions especially in severe airways disease. He is a chief investigator in different clinical trials and have been principal investigator and co-investigator in several clinical trials.

He has published in several peer reviewed high impact journals and also presented at a number of national and international meetings.
