I underwent maxillofacial surgery in early January 2020. The surgeon who lead the team was Mr Niall McLeod. Shortly before the procedure, he came and talked with me. I leant towards him and said, “I have utmost faith in you”. A heartfelt thank you to him and very single member of the of the team.

I am in the slightly odd position of being a GP who is a patient who is having spinal surgery. I have been very impressed with the Royal London and all the staff who work here. Some of the patients here have not always been as courteous and we need to try to fit into a system that is underfunded with staff who do their best The NHS cannot be all things for all people but the ward staff of 10F and the spinal nurses do their best which is pretty damn good. Fantastic surgeon as well.

I had very severe scoliosis, I had 4 operations over a course of 3/4 years. The doctors that did my operations were amazing and so were most of my nurses (apart from a few nurses from my last operation were really inconsiderate and mean). The hospital was so clean, a comfortable place to be with the game room, place to do some work and as I was in hospital over Christmas time we had Christmas dinner, presents and saw Santa. I still have my yearly check ups with my doctor until I turn 18.

WE CARE values were upheld by all members of staff. Made me feel very comfortable and safe and well assured during my time. I knew about everything that was going to happen and what was going to happen after. Very happy with service

I was sent to A&E by my GP and was dealt with efficiently and pleasantly at all times. The care was professional and we'll delivered. There was a bit of a wait for admission, but it's not easy to locate a bed of course. The ward was super clean, with pleasant, professional staff. Thank you.

From the moment I arrived at the hospital I was treated perfectly by ALL staff at every level in Wards 12E & 12F and the Recovery Ward The care offered, the total attention at all times both day and night, the sheer pleasantness of all these people were all of an unbelievably high standard from my surgeon Mr Wadley down to the staff and nurses in all areas visited. My only negative comments are reserved for the care assistants who looked after me on my last evening and night. Having had such wonderful service since arrival I was rather shocked on my last night at 8p.m. to be moved to a smaller room in Ward 12E. The low attention level there made me feel very uncomfortable resulting in me wanting to leave as soon as possible which was such a shame. And finally the hospital food really didn't come anywhere near the nursing standard but I wasn't feeling particularly hungry so that wasn't a problem. The main superb comments refer to all the staff at all the treatment levels. Many thanks for how brilliantly you treated me and how well you looked after me. Deanna Tucker 10th - 12th December 2019

Review of Friday Diabetes & Endocrine Clinic- RLH Antenatal Clinic written by a patient

I went for my first booking appointment 3 weeks ago. It was well organised. I was seen on time and the midwife spent a lot of time with me going through everything in detail. I was asked lots of questions and included in decisions about mine and baby’s care. We then went on for the scan, which again ran on time and the sonographer was very professional and took the time to explain what he was looking at, was very kind and reassuring and gave us lots of time to see baby and take it all in. I then had to go for blood tests. I will say, we waited about an hour for this and were not told that there would be a wait so thought we had been forgotten about! In addition there was miscommunication about one of the blood tests and so the nurse had to take blood twice. These things could be improved. I also had a couple of medical health related questions/possible complications which the midwife said she was making a referral for an obstetrician. She said I would receive a triage call. Three weeks later, no call and no communication. I will follow this up but this was a little disappointing. Overall a very positive experience with warm and caring staff, but a few edges that need ironing out.

The Philipino Nurses at the Royal London Hospital HDU took fantastic care of me after surgery. However, I was transferred to Ward 3D and their services there was terrible. There was a lot of medical bias, racial profiling and racist behaviour from the staffs and ward clerk towards me. This was more glaring when I asked the Occupational Therapist who assessed me before discharge for what the arrangement was for my Physiotherapy sessions and she gave me a very lame and unprofessional answer to my question/requests. Based on her action, I have struggled extensively to get adequate help with Physiotherapy after my major Spinal surgery. From my observation, the handling of my discharge was conducted with a very poor and lacklustre attitude, because there were no adequate arrangement in place by the Hospital, the local NHS and Community service with integrating me back into the Society successfully. Bearing in mind that I have been through a lot of difficulties with diagnosis, treatment and surgery. My recommendation to the Hospital will be to retrain their staffs especially the Nurses and Occupational therapist on how to be more attentive, service-oriented and improve on race relations. Patients are at their most vulnerable in Hospital, so it is extremely important to employ staffs who are competent and adequate to provide healthcare services.
