All staff super friendly and caring.
We attended CAU with my autistic son. We were told by the doctor to go home and that the GP needed to do a community paediatric referral. One hour later, we received a phone call to say we had left the department before being discharged and that the doctor didn't tell us to leave. We asked 3 times before we left! The easy thing to diagnose with a child with abdominal pain is constipation. The doctor's questions all revolved around the diagnosis of autism, and it didn't even involve a differential diagnosis. She didn't listen to our concerns, as it is extremely difficult to take a history from my son. There are posters up saying to let them know if your child has autism or learning difficulties. However, the doctor said, 'with this type of child.' This is far from being inclusive or understanding and is infuriating to hear as a parent of an autistic child. The doctor even didn't listen to parental concerns, and they were dismissed. Even though the parent is in the medical profession, they weren't listened to. What chance do people have who aren't medically changed.
