My sister was admitted to ward 113 following suspected lung cancer, where she spent 8 days. She was in chronic pain. She had to beg for pain relief, which was largely ignored, and if she did eventually get it, it would be after asking several times. One particular Nurse was cold, harsh and extremely uncaring, and showed no compassion towards my sister who was in extreme pain. She was left for very long periods of time, where no staff we anywhere to be seen. The Doctor on the ward round was not much better. She could hear him discussing her private details with other staff on the ward before coming to her bedside, for all other patients to hear, and showing little compassion when telling her that she had cancer, and informing her that they would not be providing any cpr if her heart was to stop, and then proceeded to get her to sign to that effect. This left her in total shock and extreme distress. She is now very ill at home, and lives in total fear of being admitted to this hospital in the future. My sister has been totally let down by the staff on this particular ward. The treatment she has received in other departments such as the plural clinic, has been good, but the treatment, or lack of it on ward 113, was abysmal.

We attended CAU with my autistic son. We were told by the doctor to go home and that the GP needed to do a community paediatric referral. One hour later, we received a phone call to say we had left the department before being discharged and that the doctor didn't tell us to leave. We asked 3 times before we left! The easy thing to diagnose with a child with abdominal pain is constipation. The doctor's questions all revolved around the diagnosis of autism, and it didn't even involve a differential diagnosis. She didn't listen to our concerns, as it is extremely difficult to take a history from my son. There are posters up saying to let them know if your child has autism or learning difficulties. However, the doctor said, 'with this type of child.' This is far from being inclusive or understanding and is infuriating to hear as a parent of an autistic child. The doctor even didn't listen to parental concerns, and they were dismissed. Even though the parent is in the medical profession, they weren't listened to. What chance do people have who aren't medically changed.

Went straight to the SAU unit , had amazing care , arrived at 10 am left by 13:40. First saw an amazing nurse and gynaecologist , then was spoken to in depth by the head gynaecologist who reassured me and put in place next steps. Really happy

I was sent a letter to go for a brain scan in leek of this year 2021 rang them to say couldn’t make it as to far away I live in stoke so they said they would try to get me another appointment but will have to go on the waiting list I said fine no problem. I got a phone call on Friday 30th July 2021 to say we have got you an appointment for your scan on mon 2nd aug 10.30 am went to the hospital signed it was then told it was for the eye site process witch I have had done 4 times already the same thing wasting time effort and my tax payers money on the same thing I’ve had done before so I walked out as I’ve had enough of stoke university hospitals crap and wasting tax payers money on doing the same process over and over on patients. The nurses do a great job in extinguished manor they go overboard in some cases above and beyond there call but ounce again clerical staff get it wrong again and again that is bad management staff above them. Please don’t get me started on the uniforms that all the staff have to ware unclean shabby as though they have been warn for a few days, I served in a hospital in America as a minister for the church over there and even though the hospital was full at all times people got seen on time not like over here waiting time some hour over the time slotted it was clean and the doctors and nurses could change there uniforms when and if required porters were in the right uniform and clean not like some over here in england scruffy untidy unshaven and the list goes on all I can say whoever the directors are they must have some very nice dinners and offices.

I feel at times the hospital is to big and the check in system I did not find easy as kept coming up with foreign language options. Sure it could be made a lot easier. The treatment I have had there has been excellent but the organisation is poor at times. As at one visit I had a phone call asking where I was as they were waiting to do an ecg ? I was in my car half way home after having ecg done and had seen the consultant. So think communication is quite poor at times ??

Orthopaedics reception lady was rude and sharply asked us to stand behind a yellow line when checking in. The one way system was ludicrous we were one metre away from reception and asked to double back on ourselves to go round via fracture clinic only to be lead back to orthopaedic reception literally yards away from where we started.
