I have been an outpatient or admitted to 20 different hospitals in 4 Counties - MBHT and LRI in Particular would be my least Favourite.

I had an Endoscopy recently and found the staff very reassuring, kind and helpful, I felt very safe with this procedure which isn't the most pleasant examination to have,

Admitted to ward 16 for routine procedure and overnight stay. The admitting nurse showed no empathy to my nervous state, almost like I was an irritation to her. Was left alone for 3 hours until my operation, when the operating department came to collect me. I cannot fault the theatre staff, anaethastist,or my consultant in any way, they were fantastic and caring. On my return to the ward,I had to move beds, which I understand, but the ward was not busy at the time. This was at 6.pm. I received water, then was told I would have a cup of tea, this was brought at 10.30,I received nothing to eat,was told they’d bring a biscuit but again, this wasn’t forthcoming. So I was without food until the next morning.more than 24 hours. I was very upset about this obviously.. When I was discharged,I just received a letter.,no advice on showering, bowel moments,or any helpful advice. On leaving,I was expected to carry my bag downstairs, considering I had just had prolapse surgery,I finally asked a nurse to help me as was advised by my consultant not to lift. My experience wasn’t a nice one.And I would be reluctant to go to ward 16 again. In my experience,Kendal hospital is superb compared to ward 16

Couldn't have asked for better care - having mobility issues the staff made sure I received the assistance I needed when going from one department to another.

The RLI is our local hospital and my wife and I have both been treated at the hospital on a number of occasions over the more than forty years that we have been here. Both our children were born in the Maternity Unit. We have both had operations there as in-patients and have also both had many visits to Out Patients and had a number of minor procedures carried out there over the last few years. In particular, over a long period, we have also each attended A & E following a minor accident that resulted in fractured bones. I have also attended A & E for treatment for blood poisoning following a nasty cut and also for stitches in a wound. We have always received excellent care in the hospital from everyone we have been involved with. I should especially like to say that we have also received very prompt and efficient care at A & E - we have never experienced the long waiting times that are so often reported in the news. It would be a major loss to the district if this facility were ever to be closed. We have both always received great care from all the medical and nursing staff and we thank them all. Alan & Gill Draper

The reason I have not given Royal Lancaster 5 stars (re recommend it to others) is due to the great difficulty in finding parking spaces. This has been a problem for many years now and I'm surprised that nothing has been done to improve the situation before now.

The place was filthy. There was no sanitiser anywhere. Never saw a nurse wash their hands. Never saw a nurse use gel, even before taking bloods. One assistant nurse had her mask round her neck for prolonged periods, and I saw her pick her nose and then immediately use the computer keyboard with her filthy hands. A senior nurse had her mask under her nose and picked her nose while talking to a consultant, then wiped it on her uniform, and did not wash her hands afterwards. No-one challenged them. Patients were told to take masks off once they were on ward, before even Covid and MRSA tests had been done. I was utterly traumatised, and insisted on leaving once urgent tests were done, rather than staying in for 5 to 6 days. The 2 surgeons I saw, and one junior doctor were very good, however. The one toilet's floor was swimming with water, so I mentioned it, fearing someone could slip and bang their head. It was still like that when I left 2 days later. Even without the global pandemic being factored in, it's utterly appalling. I am terrified to go back (to a different department) for urgent treatment, because I still feel utterly shocked and terrified of the possible consequences of being in that hospital again.
