I had a split cornea and was living with it for over 16 years, i was regularly seeing various consultants at James Cook but they were never enthused about me having a cornea transplant and talked me away from the procedure. The first time I saw Mr Patel back in 2016 he discussed the idea of a transplant, his confidence, charisma and enthusiasm for the surgery filled me with a confidence and a great feeling of wanting to give the transplant a go. Mr Patel advised me of the procedure and talked me through what he was going to do. From day one he has made me feel like his only patient and the most important person that he sees. His skill is unquestionable and his attention to detail second to none. The transplant has been an amazing success and for the first time in almost 20 years i can see so clearly. He is a credit to the medical proffession and is without equal the best medical practioner i have ever met.
