My Mum resides in a care home and has recently undergone a cataract operation on her right eye after being referred to CHEC. She also has a cataract in her left eye that requires attention. Unfortunately the operation was not successful and when being assessed by CHEC for corrective YAG laser treatment we were informed Mum had FUCHS' Dystrophy. We consulted Mr Patel to obtain an expert opinion of the condition given his corneal and cataract specialism. Mr Patel was empathetic, professional and, following thorough examinations, clearly explained Mum's condition and her options for treatment. He set Mum's mind at rest and we have now decided to ask him to conduct both the YAG Laser treatment and left eye Cataract surgery. The consultation was good value for money and achieved exactly what we hoped for.

My situation was that I had rapidly worsening cataracts in both eyes that were presenting a real problem for my daily life and although I had been referred for surgery under the NHS, I did not have a date for the procedure. I had been told that the type of lens offered by the NHS was a monofocal which, whilst it would provide good distance vision, would still require the need for glasses to correct for intermediate and near vision. I decided to contact a Consultant Opthamologist to gain more information about lens options/suitability. From that first meeting, Mr Patel and his team have been excellent in every regard. Having conducted a thorough examination of my eyes and listened to my eye health history (I have glaucoma and have had a significant trauma to one eye), Mr Patel patiently went through options for replacement lenses explaining their advantages and limitations. I advised him that my primary wish was for good distance and intermediate vision without the need for glasses. Mr Patel told me of an Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lens that would meet my needs and give me functional near vision. There was also a toric version of this lens that would correct my astigmatism. Owing to the technologies used in this lens, it was more expensive than a monofocal but indicated that I would be largely free from having to wear glasses after surgery. Mr Patel suggested I take the time to consider everything that we had discussed before making any decisions. In the end I chose to proceed with the EDOF lens which I now have in both eyes. Following surgery, my vision is 20/20 in both eyes and I can read at arms length without glasses, only requiring magnifiers for close work. It is wonderful to be able to see clearly again. Mr Patel was so reassuring throughout the whole clinical procedure and he really put me at my ease. I have every confidence in him and cannot recommend him highly enough.

From the first meeting ,through eye measurements to pre operation discussions Mr Patel provided a most professional service. I was aware that the cataract on one eye was going to be more difficult to remove but due to Mr Patels clear explanation of the procedure and the recovery period I was totally at ease when it came to the operation. I had operations on both eyes and now have 20*20 vision for the first time in my adult life. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Mr Patel to future patients. He and the rest of the team at Nuffield Stockton were genuinely outstanding

Mr Patel's care and skill has proven to be life-changing for me, as following my cataract surgery, I now can see distances without contact lenses for the first time in over 45 years. From the initial consultation, everything was explained to me in easy to understand terms, and I was made to feel at ease about the forthcoming procedures. My right eye especially required a much more complex lens solution than normal, due to a very high degree of astigmatism, but Mr Patel sourced the required lenses to implant, and the results are remarkable. Surgery on both eyes has now been completed with tremendous success thanks to the skill of the surgeon and his team at Nuffield Tees. I cannot speak highly enough about Mr Patel's skill and care, and I would recommend him to perform the procedures on anyone thinking of undergoing cataract surgery.

This eye surgery has changed my life. After information from and discussion with Mr Patel I decided to go for prescription lens replacement. My vision is now 20 20 having previously used a combination of contact lenses, distance and reading glasses. I had a significant cortical cataract in one eye and a developing one in the other. I am delighted to be free of glasses and contact lenses , allowing me to swim and have the confidence to go running and to the gym etc. I realise now how bad my vision was before - the surgery was partly funded by health insurance and the extra I paid for the lenses is money well spent in my opinion. Daily activities such as driving, reading , food shopping are so easy. For example I can read expiration dates and small print on packaging - something I struggled to do even with reading glasses. The care and attention I received were above my expectations. Highly recommend

I have recently undergone lens replacement surgery under the excellent care of Mr Patel. Being extremely short sighted my prescription was fairly complicated. Mr Patel was very thorough obtaining the exact measurements which have resulted in ‘life changing’ vision. Throughout the whole procedure I found Mr Patel to be very informative, knowledgable and reassuring. Being a very anxious patient I was appreciative of his calm and patient manner during consultations and in theatre. His team at the Nuffield are also very friendly and reassuring. I would certainly recommend Mr Patel to anyone considering eye surgery, particularly if you are worried about it.
