After two failed surgeries on my knee, I was at a low ebb and my GP recommended going to a teaching hospital and getting a top surgeon to fix the issue. We looked at the CVs of all the Orthopaedic surgeons at UCLH and selected Mr Rahul Patel, based on his specialist research on my particular type of injury and also that he'd spent time at The Steadman Clinic in Colorado where the very best sports(wo)men go to be treated. No matter how short the appointments were, I never felt rushed or that he was itching to get away, I felt he was listening and allowing me to share my experience of my injury without hurrying me to fit into his busy clinic. He proposed explorative surgery to have a look and figure out the best course of action. Not only did he do this, but in between the first post-op appointment and the second one, he consulted with his colleague Mr Sam Oussedik and changed his recommendation and passed me over to his care as he felt Mr Oussedik was more adept at the type of operation needed. I was super impressed that in between appointments he took the time and trouble to consult a colleague and have an ego in check enough to be able to let a colleague take over. 27 months on and I've been back playing football for 18 months now after an 8 year break. Would recommend both surgeons above in a heartbeat.

Rahul is a very approachable and competent doctor. Unlike most surgeons he is friendly , pleasant and has a sense of humour. He gave me a very straightforward set of options for my shoulder and I decided on surgery. He is always on time and doesnt waste any time in consultations. Recommended !
