30th September 2020

After an eye test at Specsavers Bishop Auckland in January 2020 I was referred to Newmedica in Middlesbrough for consideration of cataract surgery as an NHS patient. In February, Mr. A Saad at Newmedica then referred me to James Cook Hospital for cataract surgery with toric intraocular lenses – I had corneal astigmatism of +3 diopters. Then Covid 19 intervened and various appointments at James Cook were cancelled/rearranged, so in July I was offered an appointment in January 2021. At this point I decided to approach Newmedica as a private patient, as my eye-site was deteriorating and I did not wish to wait any longer. My wife and I had a consultation with Mr Mansoor on Friday 11 July and discussed at length and in depth my options for cataract surgery. Mr Mansoor then emailed us further information and recommended us a number of relevant websites. After digesting this information, we had a second consultation with Mr Mansoor on Monday the 20 July and I chose to have cataract surgery with Vivity Toric IOLs. I was aware that this extended depth of focus lens was an innovative development new to the UK. Mr Mansoor operated on the left eye on July 29 and on the right eye on August 12. I attended three post-op assessments on August 5 and 14 and September 11. Throughout this process Mr Mansoor and the Newmedica team were brilliant – for example Dana and the Anaesthetist were both very friendly and very efficient. The outcome has been as forecast – I no longer need glasses for distant and medium vision, which is now excellent for driving, birdwatching, the TV, and my desktop computer. For reading I am using standard 1.5 glasses from a pharmacy, having first bought 2.0 but found them too strong. All in all, a truly game-changing operation thanks to Mr Mansoor and the team at Newmedica, Middlesbrough. I cannot recommend them highly enough. David Humphreys, Westgate, County Durham.

After a tough year, being treated for breast cancer, having to have my cataracts done was major for me as I have a real phobia about eyes However, Mr Mansoor is excellent. He performed my first cataract surgery, which I was very nervous about and got myself into a bit of state nearly passing out afterwards. The staff at new medica where my surgery was performed were brilliant and made sure I was ok before leaving the building. To say I was nervous about having the second one done was an understatement but Mr Mansoor was very patient and gave me lots of encouragement. He even helped me off the bed when the surgery was done and walked with me to the room next door where the nurse was waiting with the foot rest raised just in case but I was fine. I really can't praise Mr Mansoor enough, he is absolutely fabulous. Thank you.

I was referred to Newmedica for cataract operations, as my eyesight had deteriorated considerably over recent years. After examination and detailed discussion, Mr. Mansoor offered me the possibility of curing my longstanding astigmatism by fitting Monofocal Toric Lenses in both eyes. I opted for this procedure, considering that the additional costs of these Lenses was worthwhile. The results have been remarkable and life changing. With the exception of requiring standard reading glasses, I am now glasses free for the first time in over 55 years and my general and distance vision is better than it has ever been. My treatment at Newmedica, during several visits, has been excellent with great care paid to Covid-19 safety measures. All the staff are kind, courteous and thoroughly professional and Mr. Mansour is a wonderful eye surgeon. I cannot fault the treatment I received throughout the whole process.

My ten year old daughter had an accident at the beginning of the year she was seen in A&E and operated on the following morning to repair as much damage as possible ,she later required a Scleral Fixated IOL once she had healed enough to proceed. Mr Mansoor was excellent with her as she was very nervous . The outcome is amazing we can not believe the difference it has made for her and we can’t thank Mr Mansoor enough .

Mr Mansoor operated on my right eye five weeks ago and left eye one week ago for cataracts. He fitted panoptic toric multifocal lenses in both eyes. The result is amazing, wonderful short and long distance vision. The operations were carried out at newmedica north ormesby. I can not praise Mr Mansoor and the staff at newmedica enough. Thank you.
