What a consultant! From the outset he listened to my issues and concerns. We discussed options and solutions, initially to prevent surgery but finally agreed that it was the only option. Mt Heaton was the epitome of caring and empathy but his orthopaedic knowledge and advice on what treatment I needed, the options, the possible impacts, side effects and expected pain levels and finally the results were what made him stand out. He carried out my surgery himself at Grantham hospital. Again, he discussed with me prior to the operation to advise what was going to happen and the post op care. During the operation (I was conscious through epidural) I understand just what was happening and the current status. After a short period I was back on the ward. The level of patient care from start to finish at Grantham was exemplary. Total pampering from caring, humorous, professional made my stay most rewarding. The post op physio is going well. I dispensed with walking aids after 2 days and was walking 1600m within 3 weeks. From start to the current time (6 weeks post op) I cannot have wished for better information, care, treatment and after care. My only advice would be to advise patients what the post op pain might be like, and what to expect.... pain, swelling, wound care, wound development etc. Its concerning when you have no benchmark to measure your performance or recovery against

Recent admission to Grantham Hospital for total hip replacement under the care of Mr Heaton and his team. From first OPA following referral to discharge excellent care received. Mr Heaton explained every step and was very professional and caring at each meeting. I knew I was in good hands. The team at Grantham Hospital were excellent in every role and delivered excellent care and support. Now on the road to recovery thanks to this gent and his team. Well done guys and thank you for improving my life for the better.

It is not often one can give unbridled praise . Mr Heaton has been looking after my wife who has problems with her knees now for a number of years. His professionalism , genuine care and interest in trying to provide the best possible care is a credit to him. He is patient ,listens to her concerns and shows real empathy with her health issues. My wife and I have complete faith and trust in his medical skills trusting his advice completely. He has won our complete confidence which has helped my wife cope mentally during difficult periods . When he stopped practicing at Boston West hospital we tracked him down and now see him at the Pilgrim Hospital. Following Xrays of both knees, Mr Heaton realised the full extent of my disability and was able to arrange a full knee replacement 3 months later. The operation went well and 6 weeks later, after examining the knee, he was satisfied with the progress of the healing The knee joint was so badly worn that the leg was badly misaligned and during the operation he was able to correct the misalignment. The left knee is in a similar condition,so I look forward to Mr Heaton working his magic on that knee in due course. Mr Heaton shows himself to be a competent caring professional and the NHS is lucky to have his expertise for patient care
