My husbands care by Mr Briffa during his triple heart bypass was outstanding. From the very beginning when we saw him and he explained everything so clearly, to the operation and aftercare was wonderful, we felt at all times that he was in good hands. The most impressive thing for me as his wife was that he bothered to ring me at the end of the operation to tell me all had gone well and that he was in intensive care, this is after operating all day. It was a very caring thing to do and meant so much and was typical of the whole experience during my husband's time at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. The whole care package designed by Mr Briffa and his colleagues is most impressive and there is incredible support at all points during the journey from outpatients to recovery at home. This included very informative booklets and manuals, a visit at home after by a cardiac nurse, a large meeting at the hospital for all who had the operation to discuss problems and ease worries and a free supported and planned exercise regime st the local leisure centre. It was very very impressive and at no time did we feel stressed as we always knew where to turn. If you are reading this you will realise that much thought has gone into this package and that can be attributed to Mr Briffa and his team who have realised that it is not just the impressive skills of the surgeon but the actions of the whole team that speed recovery and I suppose ultimately help to save the NHS money. My husband could have gone home after 4 days but his oxygen levels were just a little low so he came home after 5 days. What an achievement, thank you Mr B.riffa and your team. The only criticism I could make is that we had to wait such a long time for the operation, he was referred to the hospital in Feb 2013 and had his operation on 31st Jan 2013 so it was almost a year. We appreciate he was not an emergency but this period of time was stressful.

I had a very complicated heart operation. Which involved seven hours on the operating table. Mr Briffa was brilliant, he explained everything, and even came to see me on a Sunday. Top man 100%.

I would like to reassure other patients that they are in very safe hands with Mr Briffa and his team. This surgery was unplanned and once my condition was diagnosed Mr Briffa organised my operation within a week of my admission. I had an aortic heart valve replacement operation and was treated with dignity and respect throughout. The operation was fully explained to me and I felt I had informed choice about the procedure and options for different heart valves. The procedure and after care was excellent and both myself and my family were given good information and support. I am now well on the way to full recovery thanks to this surgeon and his team, thAnk you
