A year after the operation I remain free of pain and have resumed a normal active life. His care and attention to detail were meticulous.

In August 17 I was diagnosed with C4-5, C5-6 & C6-7 prolapsed discs with some signal change to the spinal chord. In addition C6-7 extended into the nerve root causing severe pain like I’ve never felt before. I sought 2nd opinions from 3 different consultants (both surgical and non surgical) eventually settling for Mr John Leach. Mr Leach had completed further tests/scans/xrays to confirm the diagnosis and discussed with me and my husband the options, the risks involved and potential outcomes. What was reassuring was that all this was put in writing and we were given time to research and digest this. The surgery went to plan, the hospital teams including nurses, physios etc were excellent and caring, I can’t praise them highly enough. The aftercare has also been excellent with regular follow up appointments/xrays and scans. The results have been exactly as we had hoped and we appreciate this could have been so very different. I would highly recommended Mr Leach to anyone who finds themselves in this unfortunate situation, you are in safe hands. Thank you John.

Mr Leach carried out a spinal operation at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle in August. The result has been quite remarkable. After years of increasing difficulty in walking, I am now walking with increased stride and strength with measurable improvements as the weeks go by. Life changing for me. I know it has been a team effort, so thanks go to everyone involved at the Alexandra including nurses, operating staff, follow up physiotherapists etc, as well as to Mr Leach. The condition is called stenosis, which apparently is a compression of the spine, caused by arthritis, which presses on the nerves within the spine. Anyone with a similar diagnosis would be well advised to seek the help of Mr Leach at the Alexandra. I am so glad I did. Re previous comments regarding “bedside manner” I found the consultations with him before and after the operation were completely reassuring, striking an ideal balance between professionalism and genuine concern for his patient.

After many months of suffering a chronic headache and having various treatments including steroids and pain management ; I was finally referred to Mr Leach. He assessed the scans of my neck as a C1/C2 problem. I was advised by him of the options and risks of a procedure which would involve tidying up this area and fitting some plates and bolts to hold them together. Due to holidays ,there was a delay for the operation but by the end of September ( three weeks later) the wait was worth it and the headache had completely gone. Throughout the whole period and the subsequent two annual follow up X/Rays and consultations I have nothing but gratitude for Mr Leach's excellent treatment and attention for my problem. Now two years later , apart from a minor limited neck movement ( which he told me would happen ) I am a happy headache free eighty one year old. Thank you John.
