20+ years ago, in my early 40’s, I was diagnosed with “a rotten worn out knee”. Far too early for a replacement so I limped on. It got to the point where I couldn’t finish 18 holes of golf. By chance a I met a friend who recently had a replacement. He said if you are having a replacement go to see Joel Melton. It was a perfect storm! First meeting mid January and was booked in for early February. Having had many consultations over the years I didn’t know what to expect. The sun came out! Mr Melton was a revelation. He listened, explained the pros and cons of the operation and what life could be like after the replacement. Super smooth process of pre admission, MRI and CT scans followed by a very thorough pre admission medical check. A week before the operation Mr Melton called me to ask if I had any questions or concerns. He assured me that I would be in good hands and that he had a great team who together would take good care of me. It really helped to reduce my anxiety (and fear)! Above and beyond! Nuffield Cambridge hospital provided the best care in a very comfortable environment.The staff were just amazing- every one in every department. 6 weeks after the op I have no pain, walking easily and am getting ready to play golf again very soon. I had a knee replacement in September 2021. Joel Melton was extremely informative at all times. The recovery from the surgery was extremely fast and there was remarkably little pain. I should have gone for the knee replacement surgery sooner.

Excellent surgeon. Minimal scarring. Long rehab for ACL so please be prepared for extensive rehab afterwards. I had excellent care under Mr Melton and he was the best surgeon I could have seen. I have had many different Physio’s tell me that my surgery is excellent and they have been shocked by the minimal scarring and the way I’ve progressed. I’m so happy I got a second opinion and went to Mr Melton. Highly recommend.

Throughout my life, I met few knee specialists, dealing with my condition, which resulted from bowed legs and active, sport-oriented lifestyle. I can say without a doubt, that Mr Melton is the best consultant I have ever met. After tests and discussion, Mr Melton recommended osteotomy of both legs and he performed both operations within a 6 month’s timeframe. My quick recovery, mobility and comfort after operations, is a testament of Mr Melton’s skills, knowledge and passion. The result is nothing short of spectacular, and greatly exceeded my expectations. After just 6 months I walk comfortably 3-8 miles daily, feeling that in a not too-distant future, I will go for a light run, first in 12 years. Next goal will be to return to tennis courts… From the beginning, Mr Melton clearly presented all aspects of this “medical journey”, answering my questions, building trust, confidence and strong belief in the direction taken.

At 55 years of age, I’m way too young to need replacement knees. But with hypermobility throughout my body, I was expecting it. Six months ago when I was told I would need a knee brace on my left knee, I was a bit vain about it. Then three months later my right knee was causing so much Pain, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Mr Melton agreed to replace both my knees.Here I am today, recovering from my second knee replacement. For the first time in a long time, we are planning a walking holiday for when Covid lets us out. I cannot express sincerely enough the skill and care provided by my surgeon, his secretary, and all of the staff at Nuffield hospital.
