I received excellent care from Mr Hartwright who has performed 2 x total hip replacements for me over a 2 year period. I was nervous about the procedure but he instilled great confidence and I am totally delighted in the results. After years of daily pain I do not even think about my hips at all now. My advice to anyone thinking about having this procedure is to stick with the daily exercises even though they can be painful in the very early days, taking pain killers ahead of the exercise will also help. Also, keep moving, do not sit in a chair for long periods, get up and walk around house every 30 mins.

In all honesty I really don’t think I could have had better treatment, it was superlative. Mr Hartwright throughout explained everything in layman’s terms. My stay in hospital was comfortable and all the nurses and physios were gentle, kind and encouraging. I had every confidence in Mr Hartwright throughout and felt he would do his absolute best for me and for that I’m grateful. Post op, it would have been helpful to have a trolley to carry my books, cup of tea etc. I had a bag with long handles to put over my shoulder to put my things in while I was still using two crutches. All in all I was very happy with every aspect of my treatment. Thank you

It was an amazing experience. I had just lost my wife and therefore am now living on my own. My wife was the driving force in my life and was the one who convinced me into having my surgery under Mr Hartwright. I was really so very depressed following the loss of my wife, but Mr Hartwright's team care and treatment of me was perfect. I believe that I couldn't have had better care or a better surgeon, anywhere else in the world. Before my surgery, I wasn't even unable to put my left foot on the ground. Now I am walking 100yards without a stick and am able to spend quality time with my 1 year old Great-grand son. I am also being allowed to start driving as of next week. As I have said, my care has been exemplary. I would recommend Mr Hartwright to anyone needing the advice and expertise of an Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon. He has given me a new lease of life.

Mr Hartwright replaced my right knee. I am now pain free and can walk as far as I like with no pain; previous to surgery, I was restricted to 200yds before I had to stop.

Born with hip dysplasia a day before the commencement of the NHS - 4 July 1948 - it went undiagnosed until a third x-ray in November 2022 and subsequent consultation with Mr David Artwright at RHCH Winchester in February 2023. After a scan and a further consultation - were I was amazed at the extent of hip dysplasia and damage to the hip - we mutually decided that subject to further professional assessment that a hip-replacement was the only permanent remedy. The operation was undertaken on the 27 July 2023. Prior to entering the operation facility Mr Artwright meticulously ensured that my physical position was comfortable and sustainable for the duration of the procedure. I was conscious throughout the operation and was relaxed and pain-free. The outcome is an examplar of a surgeon's approach and skill together with the whole 'Trauma and Orthopaedics Team' and supporting staff - a huge success for Mr Artwright and the NHS in its 75th anniversary and a wonderful transformation for me: no limp; no nagging persistent pain; both legs of equal length despite a previous disparity of 1 and half inches; being able to stand correctly for the first time; a substantial improvement in my mobility and well-being for which I am very grateful. Just wish an intervention had occurred much earlier in my life - but better late than never.........!
