Mr Kaliaperumal was first introduced to me a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumour. The diagnosis came as a huge shock to me - a brain tumour isn't something I imagined would ever happen to me. Mr Kaliaperumal was amazing, he went through the procedure step by step, explained the MRI scans, answered all questions and helped to put both me and my wife at ease. Nothing can prepare you for something like this and I didn't have much time between diagnosis and surgery to process what was happening. However, I felt reassured by Mr Kaliaperumal. He made me feel at ease about things. I was confident that under his care and medical direction I was in more than capable hands. You often read such negative things about the NHS in the media however, my experience makes me feel truly proud of our NHS service. The team at the Western General in Edinburgh are miracle workers. Every single member of staff within the DCN are committed to providing the best possible care and work to such high standards. The nurses, junior doctors, registrars and my consultant couldn't do enough for me to aid my recovery. Mr Kaliaperumal helped explain things to me in layman's terms and checked up on me regularly and also took the time to call my wife and provide her with updates on my progress and discuss a plan moving forward. If you've just been diagnosed with a brain tumour, you're probably overwhelmed by this potentially life changing diagnosis, but rest assured that you are going to receive the best treatment and care from Mr Kaliaperumal and his team. He is a truly amazing consultant and I feel extremely grateful to have him as my consultant.

A couple of years ago my husband was diagnosed with a right frontal lobe meningioma, which had gone misdiagnosed for months by the local GP. Mr Chandrasekaran Kaliaperumal, sat with us upon diagnosis, went through the scans and answered all of our questions, he even arranged a follow up meeting, as he appreciated there was a lot to take in. The surgery went well and the follow up care by the medical team at the Western General DCN ward was superb! Everyone from the tea lady to the senior registrar work tirelessly to help you make a full recovery :) I'm truly humbled by him and the staff at the DCN, thank you just doesn't seem like enough.... I don't have the words to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude to Mr Chandrasekaran Kaliaperumal and his team, they're phenomenal, real superheroes in my eyes! Two years on and my husbands recent scan has shown a residual regrowth and although I'm scared and have that sickness at the pit of my stomach; a calmness enters the room with a beautiful big smile, that's the 'Chandrasekaran affect'. He is able to put your mind at ease, give you the courage to get through this again. Like magic, his warm and friendly nature leaves you feeling a lot better, he makes you believe and gives you hope... You will get through this! Even though you know he has an extremely busy work schedule, he always makes the time to meet and talk, answer any questions and help put your mind at ease. He is one of the nicest and most humble people I've had the honour to meet, and although the circumstances weren't ideal, I'm grateful it was him!

In what must be a very busy schedule and dominated by time constraints Mr Kaliaperumal spent over an hour at the initial consultation talking, reviewing the MRI scan results, fully explaining his techniques, answering my many concerns and questions and sharing his very positive thoughts. He instilled such a confidence in me that within minutes of meeting him I had no reservations that surgery was the way forward. Pre surgical assessment followed the next day, where again, Mr Kaliaperumal spent valuable time allaying my fears and those of my husband. I underwent sub occipital craniotomy the next day and with excellent surgical, medical, nursing and allied health care professionals my post operative period was uncomplicated and I was discharged within 5 days. I feel extremely privileged to have been placed in the very skilled hands of Mr Kaliaperumal, a genuinely caring and compassionate surgeon, full of humility who says he is only a small part of a much bigger team. This, of course, is true but great leaders are like conductors. They reach beyond the notes to touch the magic in the players. I am, and continue to be, full of praise, extremely grateful and very humbled by the work that Mr Kaliaperumal and the other health professionals do, providing the highest quality of care and going the extra mile for patients. C
