I was admitted to John Radcliffe Hospital on 2nd of December this year for an urgent operation on my upper spine following a consultation with Mr Chaudhary only a week before. Understandably I was extremely anxious about having the operation, especially following the consultation I had had with him, however, his explanation and description of what was involved , and what the alternative would be by not going ahead, made my decision easy and I had every confidence in him due to his approach and calming style. Two days after the lengthy operation, Mr Chaudhary visited me during recovery and again his manner and way of explanation of what he had performed put me totally at ease, despite the obvious discomfort I was in. I was discharged twelve days later and have been recovering very well at home with no concerns at all, and following my post operation consultation with him this week. I was able to thank him for his kind words of encouragement, and he and I were fully satisfied that the operation was a complete success. I have to admit, like many other people, I was extremely anxious about the procedure, especially as he considered it very urgent, but I was able to overcome my fears having had him explain everything to me, and now I am well on the road to recovery, so glad to have been in his hands. ,

Mr Chaudhary listened to my symptoms and gave careful thought to possible causes. Even though the MRI scan showed no obvious issues he clearly explained what they were showing and possible reasons for my back pain. he also planned on further neuro consultant follow-up to see if other causes might be found.

I have undergone three procedures (2 x ACDF and a laminectomy) with Mr Chaudhary and his ‘A’ team, Dr Graham Barker, consultant anaesthetist and Mandy Troth, PA who ensures it all happens! For me, they are ‘Simply the Best’! Their undisputed expertise has been charted multi-times in previous reviews but it is their knowledge, understanding and genuine passion to help you, as a patient, that shines through. Friends and family found it difficult to understand my lack of fear at the approaching day of the operation but I can honestly say I had no misgivings, only confidence knowing that Roy and Graham were at the helm. An initial appointment will find Mr Chaudhary ready to patiently listen, explain and advise. He understands the fear that can consume you when you are struggling with spinal conditions. He will give his opinion but, if he senses it is necessary, he will suggest you take time to consider before making a decision. Roy deserves every accolade he has earned. He is loved by many of his patients.

I have just been operated on my back which had affected my quality of life & because of my age and diabetes was obviously more of a challenge. Roy is one of the nicest, most approachable person with a wonderful sense of humour I have ever had to deal with for medical reasons in my long life. On top of this, he is a wonderful surgeon who is gifted in his particular specialised field of key hole surgery especially connected to spines etc. Roy speaks in a layman’s language and gives the patient so much confidence. In my opinion he is underpaid. Although early days, my condition has improved beyond anything I expected and my pain has gone and my mobility’s has returned. Graham the anesthetist was also a super chap who I trusted and was again so easy to talk to. and did a grand job. A wonderful duo who compliment each other and make a good team. Mention must go to Mandy, Roy’s Secretary. Mandy was first contact and from then until the operation day kept me informed and saw me through all the administration side with kindness and efficiency to me & my wife. Mandy is a great asset to the rest of the team. I cannot thank them all enough.

I had open spinal surgery 10 years ago in my 30s. In my early 40s I had a year of ongoing sciatica and had exhausted all the other options - physio, injection and meds. Unfortunately I got to the point of being unable to walk or even stand and I knew I was faced with the possibility of surgery again. I was scared I’d have to have a fusion and to be honest I was pretty nervous of spinal surgeons from past experience. Mr Chaudhary was so different! He listened to me and explained everything very clearly. He opted for microdiscectomy. This was an entirely different experience. I was up walking on the day of surgery with really minimal pain. I wish I could have had it 10 years ago! I was off all meds in less than a week. The whole care experience - his supportive secretary (Mandy), the consultations and his aesthetic team. I felt really valued, listened to and what a success! I have slight niggles of sciatica but it’s entirely transformed my life. I have been so limited for so long! I can’t thank Mr Chaudhary and his team enough!
