I sought advice from Mr Carrothers following multiple pelvic fractures after a cycling accident. He initially gave advice to my local NHS team when I was an in patient. On follow up, privately, I felt very confident in his clear and reasoned advice on returning to running and cycling and his expertise in the management of pelvic injury. Eight months on my recovery is complete with no residual problems and a gold medal in a European age group championship!

Mr Carrothers performed a robotic total hip replacement on my left hip. He is courteous and approachable with a kindly, positive manner. He explains options and procedures clearly, and with his wealth of experience inspires confidence. He listens carefully to questions and concerns, as does his anaesthetist, Mr Mahoof; this measured approach is re-assuring. After the operation I had no swelling or bruising, and after six weeks am delighted with my mobility. I believe he is an excellent, indeed, exceptional surgeon whom I would highly recommend.

Having read a number of reviews from previous patients, I elected to put myself under Mr Carrothers’ care for my total hip replacement. This has proved to be an excellent choice. From my first consultation, he immediately put me at my ease with his friendly and caring manner. He explained clearly my possible options and then what was involved with robotic assisted surgery, answering fully any questions I had. He instilled total confidence and this was not misplaced. A few days before my operation, I had a specific query, which he took the time to investigate and then discussed with me. He visited me in hospital the day after my operation, to assure me that all went well and again another time to check on a skin rash I had developed. I was impressed by his level of care. Two months down the line, I am delighted to be pain free and to have recovered my mobility so quickly. I should like to thank Mr Carrothers and his team for making it such a positive experience and would definitely recommend him to anyone contemplating orthopaedic surgery.

I suffered with severe osteoarthritis in one of my hips. Mr Carrothers examined the hip and took an x-ray. He explained the issue with the hip and the options; he also answered all my question. I elected to have a MAKO total hip replacement and have it done quickly. I was fitted in at the first opportunity that was convenient to me which was 5 weeks after the appointment. In between the MRI scan and assessment was completed at a convenient time for me. If I arrived early for any of these appointments, I was seen as soon as the person was available. On the day of the operation, I arrived at 7AM and was operated on about lunchtime. By the next day, I was up and about and had 2 sessions with the physio team where I learned to use crutches included going up and down stairs. I was discharged at lunchtime the next day. Mr Carrothers came to see me before the operation, after the operation and every day that I was in the Hospital. He explained what was going to happen and how it had gone as well as answering any question that I had. Pain relief was given a high priority in the hospital and I was provided with a variety of medications to take away. The MAKO procedure seemed less invasive, and I am making a good speedy recovery. By the 6-week postop visit to Mr Carrothers, I was walking up to 10000 steps a day without the aid of crutches. This was quite a bit more that before the operation. Very happy with the procedure and the care that I received.
