Mr Davidson performed a Conformis total knee replacement on my right knee in September 2019 and also on my left knee in January 2020. I have found him to be thoroughly professional, straightforward and efficient throughout the entire experience. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others. As I am in my early 70's I viewed the first operation with considerable trepidation. However the advice and treatment he provided has proved first-class. He tells you what you need to know, not what you don't and you just need to follow his advice. Having come through the first operation well I had complete trust and confidence in him upon going into the second procedure. My rate of recovery this time has been much faster which has been a great bonus. Within 2 weeks of the op I have been able to walk adequately without crutches.
After 18 months of knee pain, I chose to visit Alastair Davidson on the back of his strong reviews and specialist expertise. After a thorough examination and, soon after MRI scan, a clear diagnosis was made and he performed an arthroscopic meniscal repair. As a runner, I was dreading the outcome as I had heard all the horror stories but can honestly say my fears were unfounded as the procedure was quick and relatively painless. I walked out of the hospital on the same day and was fully mobile in a matter of days. Six weeks on I am back in the gym and pain-free. Throughout this treatment, I have found Mr. Davidson to be thorough, professional and friendly and I would have no hesitation in recommending him or returning to him should the need arise.
Having heard that total knee replacement operations carry considerable risk and having, therefore, postponed it for as long as possible on the advice of my GP, I committed to having the operation with some trepidation. However, Mr Davidson put my mind at rest (despite having, by law, to read out all the possible complications involved!), gave me good advice on building up the strength of the knee before, as well as after the op. and generally acted very professionally.
In fact, all went better than I thought possible and my recovery has been rapid - two and a half months later I have almost regained the full bend in my knee - and no longer have the pain I experienced before the operation. I am delighted.
Alastair Davidson completed a total knee replacement procedure on my right leg on July 31st this year. I had a follow up meeting with him today, 11th Sept, 6 weeks from the operation and I am pleased to report that it has been a complete success. My recovery has surpassed all my expectations to the point that I can say I have returned to life as normal. I walk upstairs and downstairs normally, ride my bike, importantly walk without a limp and I will play a few holes of golf tomorrow.
In all our meetings Mr Davidson has always been business like, frank and to the point and clearly completed a very successful operation. I am delighted with the outcome.
Unfortunately I did not feel listened to or important whilst being treated by Mr Davidson. He comes across uninterested and I didn’t feel like I was treated as an individual but just a number. He doesn’t have a good bedside manor and I came away from all my consultations feeling upset, frustrated and extremely worried just because of how Mr Davidson conducts himself. He could possibly be a great surgeon BUT surgery is a very small part of patient care.
