Mr Fairbank did a "half" knee replacement 4 weeks ago. I had been warned by several acquaintances who had had knee replacements to expect a several weeks of pain. Whilst I have to say it's not the most wonderful or comfortable experience I was off the strong pain relief after five days (and any at all after two weeks) Several things I felt helped my experience be as benign as it has turned out to be: 1) Epidural vs general anesthetic - I was eating lunch an hour or two after the operation! Stay of the "gas" if you can. 2) Hydrotherapy - getting in that pool with the physiotherapist two days after the operation really got me moving and on the road to recovery. 3) The wonderful Aircast Cryo Cuff - FORGET packets of frozen peas - this gadget not only cools the knee but also applies the right sort of compression (Mr F says that's important) A massive comfort after doing my exercises. RECOMMEND!! All in all not half as bad an experience as I was bracing for! Thanks Adrian, your a real pro.

Three weeks ago I went to see Mr Fairbank and I was on crutches and after an examination he identified the problem as a torn cartilage. He discussed the procedure he proposed and explained other factors and how, after the operation, I could look after my knees so that they would last. Mr Fairbank schedulled the arthroscopy for 4 days later. At Parkside Hospital Mr Fairbank and his staff were kind helpful and attentive. Everything was explained to me and all my questions answered. The procedure went well and the whole experience was positive. An operation is always worrying but the calm and confident manner of Mr Fairbank made me feel relaxed and not at all anxious. Two weeks after the operation I walked into Mr Fairbank's office normally and without crutches and I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment I received.

It is now just over 2 years since I had both knees replaced ( one in February and the other in July 2012 ). The information and advice given by Mr Fairbank before the operations was frank and gave a clear picture of what to expect and how to help myself cope better with the effects of the surgery. In particular he recommended a programme of cycling, increasing in intensity up to the operation. This strengthened the leg muscles and I am sure helped a speedy recovery. I got back on my cycling machine again three weeks after surgery and this helped the flexibility of the joints. I also found religiously performing the post operative programme of exercises prescribed by the physio was essential in assisting a speedy recovery. The surgery was of the highest order as was the aftercare I received at Parkside. One measure of this is the faint scars on my knees which are almost invisible. Net I would recommend Mr Fairbank and his team to anyone needing orthopedic surgery. After 2 years I have no ill affects and am able to lead a full and active life with no pain or other restrictions. I would also like to commend Mr Fairbank's secretary Pauline who actually took the trouble to visit me shortly after each operation and was always helpful and cheerful, an extra tonic.

I found Mr Adrian Fairbank to be a truly dedicated orthopaedic surgeon whose calm persona allayed any fears I had concerning my forthcoming knee surgery. I have now had arthroscopy surgery on both knees and am so thrilled with the results. His team at Parkside Hospital have been extremely kind and reassuring in a truly professional manner. A special thank you to Pualine, Mr Fairbank's secretary, who was always at the end of the telephone in support and many thanks once again to Mr Fairbank.

Adrian was very focused on the result of the actual core problem that the surgery was carried out to fix. I feel he was less focused on the subsequent problems that come out of major joint surgery such as persistant fluid and damage to remaining tissue used in the procedure. I was pointing out issues in follow up sessions that were pushed aside, some months down the line from the last check, I have gone elsewhere to deal with persistant residual issues that looking back should have been dealt with at the time.
