Great Doctor Really understanding, Listened to what i had to say about all areas of my health difficulty. didn't make me feel like a hypochondriac like previous GP's.
I found Miss Collins to be very thorough and helpful and I learnt much more about my problem than I had previously learnt from her colleagues. Although her opinion was slightly different from previous diagnoses, I trusted hers which seems more compatible with my symptoms.
Fantastic approach, very open and friendly superb advice and help offered.
On the 21/5/2014 i attended a appointment at Neath/Port Talbot Hospital for injections in my spine for a problem that has been me a lot of trouble for quite some time now.The treatment that i recieved by Dr Iona Collins and her team was second to none and has been very benefical to this problem which now seems to be on the mend.In this day and age where it seems everybody has nothing good to say about the NHS i thought it only right to give praise where it's due and thank Dr Iona Collins, her team and the NHS for an excellent job.
It would have been beneficial if a little more time could have been given to my mother, with me present, after the procedure to be told how things went and to have the opportunity to ask questions.
However, we rate Ms Collins very highly and are very grateful for the opportunity to be able to have this procedure done in the hope of lessening my mothers excruciating pain.
Profile
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon with a full time NHS practice based in Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The Swansea- based spinal service geographically serves the population of South West Wales from Bridgend to Aberystwyth.
I grew up in Llantrisant, South Wales and I was educated through the Welsh language education system. I subsequently moved to London and graduated from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1996 with MBBS and BMedSci(Hons) degrees.
I completed my basic surgical training in 1997 in Oxford, gaining my MRCS certification. I then pursued orthopaedic specialisation firstly in New Zealand and then Scotland, before commencing a 6 year orthopaedic training rotation back in Oxford in 2002.
In 2006, following my FRCS(Orth) examinations, I chose to sub-specialise my further training purely in spinal surgery. My spinal fellowships were based in Oxford, Nottingham and Sydney, Australia, totalling two years.
I returned from Sydney in 2008 to take up my first consultant position at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. The opportunity to be a founding member of the newly-opened spinal unit in Swansea brought me back to my homeland of South Wales in 2011.
I have experience of delivering fully comprehensive spinal care, from cervical spine to sacrum. I offer clinical consultations, spinal expert witness services, spinal surgery, spinal injections and spinal cementing procedures along with appropriate aftercare. I have experience of spinal problems relating to physical training having been a keen sportswoman (Women’s captain St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Rowing Club, member of Lea Rowing club, Women’s vice-captain St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Squash club and member of Bicester Hockey club while training in Oxford).
