Nearly one week on from my father appointment, and we are still, discussing how good a consultation we had with Miss Collins, we have never experienced such a thorough informative, reassuring and honest consultation and we have had a number of consultations over the years. Miss Collins picked up immediately just how embarrassed and depressed my father feels about his condition her approach was first class, she treated my father with dignity and respect, ensuring we both had a full understanding of what was being explained, she even produced medical models of bone and spine structures to aid our understanding. We now have a full understanding of the issues and potential treatments, Miss Collins answered every question, even explaining why certain treatments would not resolve the issue. We left Miss Collins office, so grateful for the experience, we look forward to our next appointment, she has given us realistic hope no matter what the eventual outcome for my father, for the first time in his treatment journey we feel like we have a safe pair of hands, I can't thank Miss Collins enough, she has thrown a bright shaft of light on an otherwise dark period for my father, how lucky we are to have her working for the NHS.
Miss Collins has given me so much support while undergoing various issues with my spine. My last operation has given me my life back and I will be forever grateful to her skills, compassion, communication and patience in answering any questions

Keep it up, I couldn't improve upon you if I tried.
You explained everything you me in an easy to understand way without me feeling spoken down to. Your knowledge and passion gave me huge confidence before the surgery. Thank you. I couldn't have asked for a better person

I had complete faith in Miss Collins from the outset .Miss Collins explained in detail the type of surgery she would perform together ,with the associated risks ,and also the expected results of the surgery .Miss Collins listened to , and answered any queries I had regarding this surgery , and I was reassured by her answers . She also said that I could contact her or a member of her team if I had any other questions . I would assure any other patients who were to undergo spinal surgery that they would have excellent care from Miss Collins .
Profile
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon with a full time NHS practice based in Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The Swansea- based spinal service geographically serves the population of South West Wales from Bridgend to Aberystwyth.
I grew up in Llantrisant, South Wales and I was educated through the Welsh language education system. I subsequently moved to London and graduated from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1996 with MBBS and BMedSci(Hons) degrees.
I completed my basic surgical training in 1997 in Oxford, gaining my MRCS certification. I then pursued orthopaedic specialisation firstly in New Zealand and then Scotland, before commencing a 6 year orthopaedic training rotation back in Oxford in 2002.
In 2006, following my FRCS(Orth) examinations, I chose to sub-specialise my further training purely in spinal surgery. My spinal fellowships were based in Oxford, Nottingham and Sydney, Australia, totalling two years.
I returned from Sydney in 2008 to take up my first consultant position at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. The opportunity to be a founding member of the newly-opened spinal unit in Swansea brought me back to my homeland of South Wales in 2011.
I have experience of delivering fully comprehensive spinal care, from cervical spine to sacrum. I offer clinical consultations, spinal expert witness services, spinal surgery, spinal injections and spinal cementing procedures along with appropriate aftercare. I have experience of spinal problems relating to physical training having been a keen sportswoman (Women’s captain St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Rowing Club, member of Lea Rowing club, Women’s vice-captain St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Squash club and member of Bicester Hockey club while training in Oxford).
