Yes, the Doctor was excellent, very clear in her explanation of my complaint and I was more than satisfied with her friendly attitude towards me. She listened very carefully to what I had to say. A credit to her profession.
After just one consultation Dr Collins really listened and understood my situation. She genuinely cared about my condition and wanted to help. I felt like someone finally sat up and took action after months of suffering. I cannot praise her highly enough. Thank you so much Dr Collins.
I saw Dr Iona Collins at Sancta Maria Hospital in Swansea after problems with my back were causing me to lose time from work and my back problems were not getting any better. Dr Iona Collins took the time to explain what number of problems were causing the situation, what the treatment would consist of and i came away from the from the appointment a far happier person than the one that went in.I would have no hesitation in recomending Dr Iona Collins to anyone who suffers with back problems.
Exercising through pain for two years after a traumatic fall, and previous history of slipped discs, I had an appointment with Dr. ETR James who listened and referred me to Ms Collins. She understood what I was trying to do and offered me help. I am eternally grateful for the support and advice she has given to me. I was at breaking point, and felt that there was an attitude to my age!
Ms Collins is totally professional and she really cares. She gives time, asks questions and looked at the whole picture of my symptons. In one interview within minutes with the use of a diagram she worked out the source of all my pain and discomfort of the past years. I now know and understand what L5 and a nerve root canal injection means and I have the reassurance that all my efforts to keep fit and active, and taking painkillers was the right thing to do. With Ms Collins help I now have hope that I can obtain some relief .
Profile
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon with a full time NHS practice based in Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The Swansea- based spinal service geographically serves the population of South West Wales from Bridgend to Aberystwyth.
I grew up in Llantrisant, South Wales and I was educated through the Welsh language education system. I subsequently moved to London and graduated from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1996 with MBBS and BMedSci(Hons) degrees.
I completed my basic surgical training in 1997 in Oxford, gaining my MRCS certification. I then pursued orthopaedic specialisation firstly in New Zealand and then Scotland, before commencing a 6 year orthopaedic training rotation back in Oxford in 2002.
In 2006, following my FRCS(Orth) examinations, I chose to sub-specialise my further training purely in spinal surgery. My spinal fellowships were based in Oxford, Nottingham and Sydney, Australia, totalling two years.
I returned from Sydney in 2008 to take up my first consultant position at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. The opportunity to be a founding member of the newly-opened spinal unit in Swansea brought me back to my homeland of South Wales in 2011.
I have experience of delivering fully comprehensive spinal care, from cervical spine to sacrum. I offer clinical consultations, spinal expert witness services, spinal surgery, spinal injections and spinal cementing procedures along with appropriate aftercare. I have experience of spinal problems relating to physical training having been a keen sportswoman (Women’s captain St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Rowing Club, member of Lea Rowing club, Women’s vice-captain St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Squash club and member of Bicester Hockey club while training in Oxford).
