Cara Baker has an approach to the inguinal hernia which is proven safer than that adopted by many other consultant surgeons who, unlike her, introduce foreign bodies (bungs or mesh) Cara Baker also respects the area webbed as it is with many nerves and vessels. At our first meeting a virtual one as I had a head injury and couldn’t travel Cara Baker immediately put me at my ease and set to professionally from the CT scan to which she had access. Subsequently when I met her at St Thomas for my Pre op and clinical assessment she clarified her approach and the rationale for it. As previously she was punctual, efficient and kind, i throughout the process had total faith in her. She kindly made sure all clinical assessment took place to keep to a minimum my travelling in to London from whitstable in kent. For the hernia operation itself Cara Baker made sure it would be morning surgery at the w/end so my escort to would be accommodated. When more urgent cases had to take priority from within St Thomas’ Cara Baker made sure I was kept abreast of developments. Her team throughout were also a total delight keeping me wrapped in hot blankets and calm despite the delay. As it was a complicated procedure Cara Baker stayed on my case while another patient she diverted to her excellent colleague. Her anaesthetist too put me at my ease so all went smoothly. Subsequent to the procedure, Cara Baker came by me in recovery to remind me she had glued not stitched me and I’d be showering later! She reassured me all had gone exactly as she had planned and that I’d only need pain-killers of the mildest nature the next three or four days. I hope Cara Baker next has time to write ‘speedy interventions’ then ‘speedy recovery’ In kent I had the hernia months before a scan or consultant meeting I had waited a year already and would have waited a further year. Cara Baker was refreshingly different Did I want this Friday or Saturday or next week’s It was also excellent having and being able to support a female surgeon I feel honoured to have been operated on by Ms Cara Baker and cannot recommend her highly enough.

This doctor performed minor surgery on me this morning. She was most reassuring, conversed throughout the procedure helping me to relax and her post op advice was most informative. Her team was supportive and I was most impressed.

In March 2019 I accompanied my mother to St Thomas'Hospital London for her scheduled stomach operation.This was my first visit to the Hospital.I have heard lots of good things about the hospital,and my mother used to praise the excellence of care she had received from her Specialist Surgeon called Miss Cara Baker. On our arrival we were met by a friendly and pleasant nurse who took my mother into a private room to prepare for theatre.she carried out some investigations such as taking my blood pressure and temperature. My mother asked the nurse about who the Surgeon was.The nurse said it was going to be Miss Cara Baker ,one of the Specialist Surgeons who is also a Consultant Oesophago ;Gastric ,general Surgeon,who also specialises in management of patients with Oesophageal and Gastric cancer,and GIsurgery including hiatal hernias and gall bladders. An hour later a pleasant and calm lady came into the waiting room where she introduced herself as the Surgeon Miss Baker.She was friendly and pleasant. She explained the type of surgery and the procedure to undergo to us.She was thorough and very knowledgeable. she reassured us and gave us confidence in her and the operation Miss Baker even offered to telephone me about the result after the operation was completed. At about 9pm Miss Baker telephoned me as arranged and told me that the operation was completed and that it was a struggle.She sounded polite,calmand reassuring She proved to be reliable and caring about the potential of the patient.She did what Surgeons dont do by phoning surgery results to relatives, usually relatives are expected to contact the Hospital theater and enquire about the operation outcome. Miss Baker proved to be very good ,reliable and a safe trustworthy surgeon. I will not hesitate to tell people about this Surgeon when they need surgery.

Ms Cara Baker is one of the most respected and experienced safe practising Consultant Oesophageal -Gastric, and General Surgeons,who works at St Thomas's She generates high standards ,compassion , caring and kindness towards her patients. Ms Baker specialises in the management of patients with Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer,Upper Gastric Intestinal surgery, including hiatal hernias,of which she performed a sucessful procedure on me. .Also she performs other surgery conditions,such as gallstones and Upper GI endoscopy. Ms Baker is always open to new innovations applying research to improve and apply modern techniques and skills to surgery. She demonstrates these skills in the 2nd edition of her joint book Rapid Surgery, which is now out for sale. She's uses Laparoscopy during her key hole surgery and aims to minimise wound sizes to allow quick healing. I would encourage and recommend Ms Baker to anyone who may need surgery. She is clever ,kind and caring.
