Dr Abouelela assisted my consultant Mr Nowell when I had aortic valve replacement surgery at St George’s Hospital in September 2019. There were no complications and my recovery in hospital was speedy which demonstrates the level of skill carrying out the surgery. During my time in the ward and afterwards at the outpatients clinic he was at all times friendly, reassuring and informative. Four months after major surgery I have completed Phase 3 cardiac rehabilitation, started Phase 4 and am swimming, doing yoga and Nordic walking. My goal is to get back to windsurfing in the summer.

My husband had surgery for mitral valve repair by consultant surgeon Mr. Venkatachalam Chandrasekaran at the St George's Hospital and Dr Youssef Abouelela works as the surgeon's registrar. Dr Youssef is well informed yet relaxed and has a cheerful presence. He reassured us every step of the way and took good care of both my husband and me in a very endearing manner that made us feel like we were family to him. Being a medical professional myself, I knew that Dr. Youssef is a capable doctor, who genuinely cares for the patients, listens to them patiently. We felt confident in his presence.

My father had surgery for Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy in September 2019 and I really wanted to thank Dr Youssef Abouelela for the care he received and the success of the operation. In time, when my father has had time to recover from the surgery, I believe as a family we will see the impact the operation will have on his health.
