Dr Iftikhar Fazal

I am a 71 year old woman with a young outlook who leads an active life. For several years I have suffered from Ventricular ectopic heart beats but for the past two and a half years have also suffered from severe supraventricular ectopic beats. I was being treated for 2 years at Kings Mill Hospital cardiology department. During this time I saw several doctors and had several changes of medication which did not control the problem and some of the drugs were totally inappropriate for my condition and made me feel quite ill. I was beginning to despair of ever feeling normal again as the severity of the ectopics were very debilitating to the point where I could not walk about easily and could not even sleep. The doctors I had seen were very dismissive of my condition and I was getting depressed and thinking that this was going to be my life from now on. Then I researched on line for a doctor in this area who specialised for arrhythmias and saw Doctor Fazal's name. I noted that he had trained at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and I knew this to be an excellent hospital. I saw him initially at the Park Hospital and he was very reassuring. Subsequent visits were at Kings Mill. The treatment I received from him was excellent. He was kind, caring and reassuring explaining everything to me, but most of all he knows what he is doing in the treatment of arrhythmias. It has taken 6 months to get the dosage of drugs right and this was done with very careful monitoring as these drugs can have some dangerous side effects. At all times during this treatment, Dr Fazal made me feel comfortable and safe and that I was in good hands. Now , I am pleased to say, I am back to my usual self. My heart beat is regular, I have more energy and can enjoy life again. The continuity of care and experience he has given me has been excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who has a problem similar to mine.

My father who is a young 87, became very ill towards the end of last year and thanks to my fathers practice nurse, we got a quick appointment with Dr Iftikhar Fazal at Newark hospital, who said basically my father he thought, was in heart failure. For months we had been back to his GP's on many occasion, due to his legs swelling massively, making them extremely heavy, that he became almost immobile. After a while he had shortness of breathe, severe tiredness and depression followed, he was giving up and dying in front of me and I was becoming desperate and stressed. After our first initial consultation with Dr Fazal, he made it clear, time wasn't on our hands and asked if we would be able to come to see him at The Park hospital, which was the best thing we ever did, as he needed to be seen weekly. It turned out he has heart failure, as one side of his heart was not working properly and his heavy legs was due to the amount of water building up in his body, which by now had reached his waist, so was bloated and swollen from the waist to his feet. Dr Fazal I found very professional and thorough and immediately started treatment on my father to get rid of the water. We went back weekly, then every ten days and was monitored the whole time. Within a week I could not believe the change, he lost a lot of the water and for the first time in a long time, saw my father beginning to come back to life, which continued for the coming weeks, he lost I think over a stone and half in water. My Dad will not be cured, but he can now walk and drive again, his legs are back to normal, has got back his spark back and hope next year he will still be here to walk me down the aisle. I cannot thank Dr Fazal enough, he treated him kindly, was extremely understanding and new exactly what was wrong with him, after months of banging my head on a wall and getting nowhere. I would recommend Dr Fazal without a moments hesitation to anyone, especially if you think or might have a heart problem, want a second opinion or have any of the symptoms my father had. Last year I was diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure and I wanted to see a Cardiologist, as I was becoming more breathless, tired and found doing every day tasks difficult. My friend recommended Dr Fazal, as her partner had been treated by him. From my first consultation I realised how thorough and professional Dr Fazal is. My condition was not easy to diagnose but Dr Fazal kept sending me for tests until eventually it was clear what was wrong. After an operation I feel better than I have felt for a very long time. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Fazal to anyone needing a Cardiologist.
