I have been under Dr Barnes's care for my MS for 15 years now, and I couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable and caring doctor.
He always patiently listens to my concerns with attention. He advises the best approach and always makes sure I am in touch with the MS nurse, physiotherapist etc if he feels I need their assistance.
Having such an unpredictable health condition can be very scary but always after meeting with him all my worries are gone. He reassuringly explains everything clearly, advising how to deal with symptoms.
I am so grateful for the care I receive from Dr Barnes and his team.
This doctor couldnt care less about his patients. (maybe he cares more about the ones who pay private health insurance) Never listens to your problems, symptoms. If you describe your problem, he will tell you its got nothing to do with MS. (and I know 100% it does!) After few minutes you feel guilty, that you dare to bother him with your illness. Instead of trying to help you and refer you for more test or examination, he will send you aey with words "get back to us when your symptoms get worse, or when you have another relapse." Thats the last thing you want to hear from the person that should be there for you and help you to get better. You will leave his surgery feeling completely hopeless. Honestly this doctor should have studied to be a vet, he wouldnt have to be dealing with people. Avoid!
Before I saw Dr Barnes, I read the reviews here and was concerned. It turned out I was correct to be concerned. My experience echoed the experience of other reviewers. Dr Barnes did not want to listen to my symptoms, interrupting me in the consultation and telling me that he did not want to hear them. He conducted a very short strength test in which he told me to push my arms and legs against him, at the end of which he concluded that I had, in fact, no loss of strength even though this is one of my main symptoms.
He then ordered a single clinical test, which came back negative. Based on this, he discharged me back to my GP with the claim that I have no neurological condition. This, in spite of the fact that during the 4 months I was under his "care", my symptoms have continued to worsen and have become even more disabling.
The experience I had with Dr Barnes was a shoddy, cursory, unprofessional, incomplete excuse for professional care which fell way below the standard I would expect from a qualified consultant. I got the impression from the dismissive manner of this doctor that he's just marking time and going through the motions to get through the time remaining until his retirement. He wasted months and months of my time, which could have been used by a competent consultant to diagnose my condition.
If you are assigned this doctor under the NHS, be very concerned.
Mr Barnes did not listen to my symptoms- having already decided the outcome. He interrupted me multiple times telling me what I was explaining had happened was irrelevant. He then proceeded to walk me up and down a corridor of waiting patients, telling me to do various walking techniques which I was unable to do- leaving me humiliated and in floods of tears. This man is completely blasé and uncaring and does not listen.
It is a shame I didn’t not check the reviews before seeking help from Dr. D. Barnes.
No need to go into too much details. My son had had GBS when he was 12 now he is 20 with many reactions he has from medications he was concerned he would get a reaction from the Covid vaccine. Réaction meaning triggering GBS symptoms.
Dr D Barnes brushed away any advice that was given from the French Dr who saved Jon’s life...his advice the best allergy test is to get the vaccination....and this was considered a neurological consultation....via Zoom? £275! For just under half an hour. He has not physically seen my son. Not checked him over. Where are ones morals? Society has really changed and there are. I morals anymore.
