Before I saw Dr Barnes, I read the reviews here and was concerned. It turned out I was correct to be concerned. My experience echoed the experience of other reviewers. Dr Barnes did not want to listen to my symptoms, interrupting me in the consultation and telling me that he did not want to hear them. He conducted a very short strength test in which he told me to push my arms and legs against him, at the end of which he concluded that I had, in fact, no loss of strength even though this is one of my main symptoms. He then ordered a single clinical test, which came back negative. Based on this, he discharged me back to my GP with the claim that I have no neurological condition. This, in spite of the fact that during the 4 months I was under his "care", my symptoms have continued to worsen and have become even more disabling. The experience I had with Dr Barnes was a shoddy, cursory, unprofessional, incomplete excuse for professional care which fell way below the standard I would expect from a qualified consultant. I got the impression from the dismissive manner of this doctor that he's just marking time and going through the motions to get through the time remaining until his retirement. He wasted months and months of my time, which could have been used by a competent consultant to diagnose my condition. If you are assigned this doctor under the NHS, be very concerned.
