I saw Dr Chandu in A&E on a Sunday evening. I had visited the hospital a few times that week due to on-going pain and was understandably upset. He was an absolute star! From the moment I met him I felt safe and reassured. He came out into the waiting area to introduce himself and explained to me what he would be doing for me and what tests I would be having. He continued to check in on me whilst we waited for the results, too. When the results came back, he went through everything with me in detail and provided me with a copy of the paperwork for my peace of mind. I left the hospital feeling so safe and relieved that everything was OK. He was so kind and he listened to everything I said. He always had a smile on his face and nothing I asked of him was too much. I cannot thank Dr Chandu enough for what he did for me that night and for helping me get through a very difficult week in my life. He has been supportive to me since I was discharged, too. He is a fantastic doctor and a true hero.

My 93 year old mother was admitted to Queens Hospital after she was found on her bedroom floor. Given the current restrictions, and her limited hearing,I was obviously concerned about her being taken to A & E. Dr Wickramarachchi treated my mother whilst she was in A & E and he demonstrates the qualities, which exemplify our NHS. He contacted me by telephone, once my mother's initial treatment had been established, and gave me the opportunity to explain my concerns relating to her well-being over the previous few days. He listened carefully to what I had to say and obviously took account of my concerns. He followed up our telephone conversation with a number of emails to provide further updates and seek clarification on issues affecting my mother. He went out of his way to ensure he contacted me again by telephone during the very late evening to provide an update and answer any questions I had, as my mother was moved from his care and admitted to a ward. The level of re-assurance provided by Dr Wickramarachchi was outstanding and even more so given the current restrictions, which meant I was unable to be with my mother. His explanation of her condition and treatment plan put my mind at rest that she was receiving the best possible care. Thank you very much for your dedication and for ensuring I was fully informed of my mother's treatment

I would like to thank, Dr Chandu Wickramarachchi who went above and beyond with patient care during my admission to A&E following a bite on my leg becoming infected. During my admittance he always took the time and effort to ensure I was well looked after before I was allowed to leave. He is a credit to the hospital and I am sure many more patients feel the same way. He is truly an NHS hero, during covid 19

My Mum (92) has been in and out of hospital over the last four weeks after a series of falls.  Due to the Covid crisis the imperative was to send her back home to a care regime that I knew was not appropriate for her needs.  I believed another fall was inevitable with potentially catastrophic results.  Dr Chandu saw Mum in A & E, took onboard her situation and realised that sending her home was likely lead to further falls and hospital admissions - a relentless cycle that is neither in the interests of the patient, or the NHS. Dr Chandu ensured Mum was admitted to a ward giving us, her family time to arrange care for her.  I would like to commend Dr Chandu for his empathy in recognising a frail and vulnerable person in distress, and having the vision to interpret the protocols in a less rigid manner to ensure her future safety

I was taken to A&E 2 weeks ago with pains in my chest and I was seen by Dr Chandu He immediately made me feel less anxious , he was very caring and thoughtful from the minute I met him . He arranged for various tests to be done dealing with other patients he still managed to come over to ask how I was feeling. At this particular time I was trying to contact my daughter who recently had moved to Cornwall ,he told me to call her . He spoke to her and reassured her I was ok and would be going home later that evening . It doesn’t sound much but it made both my daughter and myself feel so much better . Dr Chandu is an excellent Doctor with the ability to make you feel he really cares about you. The NHS is very lucky to have him . Lyndy Mckerrow
