I have recently had the pleasure of working as a junior colleague to Dr. Olatoye in a busy Acute Medical Unit in the north-west of England. I have directly observed his interactions with hospital inpatients and found both his communication skills and clinical judgement to be consistently excellent. He is empathetic, approachable and always willing to share his knowledge and experience with colleagues. He is an excellent role model for junior doctors and I would feel comfortable and reassured if he was in charge of my care or the care of my loved ones.

A great mentor who always treats patients and colleagues with a great deal of respect and compassion.

Dr Olatoye leads by example in his approach to clinical work. He is polite to all staff and patients. He takes responsibility for decision-making and doesn’t hide from difficult or complex conversations. He makes a real effort to teach, even on a busy ward round. He take time to discuss issues around complex cases and management plans and really seems to listen to what I say during discussions. I feel like working with him has made me a better doctor. He takes time to listen to patients and explain things to them in a way they can understand. Dr Olatoye is universally held in very high regard throughout medical and nursing teams

Profile

I specialise in acute medicine. I am passionate about making sure my patients understand what is being said and what the medical plan is.

I understand that hospitals can be a scary place and so I aim to put patients (and their families) at their ease.

I acknowledge that although I may have seen your condition a hundred times before, this may the first time you have spoken to a doctor in years so I will give you the time you need to explain to me what is going on.

My standard of care is to ask myself "if this was your relative, how would you like them to be treated?"
