After a years wait for assessment, I’m surprised how quickly the assessment period was over and no explanation about diagnosis. Feeling very lost as unable to take the medication - I thought I would easily gain access to counselling after assessment but actually have had no support I have to go back to GP.

I found my experience with psychiatry uk very positive and effective for my adhd. Patient portal was easy to use but make sure you use google chrome not safari as it doesn’t open some of the forms correctly. Everyone I spoke/ wrote to was very nice, understanding and replied quickly. My titration nurse was fantastic and let me try lots of options until I found the one that works for me.

Not only was the process speedy, but also friendly, approachable and understanding. The prescribing team (Debbie Linton in particular) were constantly available to answer any questions and concerns without any trouble, and I was never made to feel like an annoyance. Furthermore, the team were seemingly always available to help. Even when they reasonably shouldn't be - like the evening or the weekend - which was honestly shocking; and super helpful given the challenges of timekeeping that ADHD presents. My particular prescriber was endlessly patient with my anxieties and queries, making time to thoroughly answer my questions and provide me with decisions about my care - helping me feel in control and cared for. On top of this, the assessment process was infinitely faster than the alternative NHS waiting lists, and was a comprehensive process all the same. One criticism in this area it would be a lack of specific guidance on answering the questionnaires; which did make answering them in a timely manner a challenge for someone with ADHD. Perhaps some more information on the questionnaire itself, or a separate document attached to offer some guidance for the subject and their family/carers. A further criticism would be the structure of the medication review forms on the Web portal which have a tendency to stack up if you miss one. This means there's some confusion about which one you should fill out each time because they aren't ordered by date issued or marked in any way beyond a number: I.e. 'form 3' for a previous medication titration, say 30mg, and 'form 3' for 40mg share the same name on the website - making it confusing which you should click. This meant that in my case, I have several forms available to fill in at any one time, and because I don't which I did last time I never know which one to do this time. I would suggest a more detailed presentation of the forms to alleviate this problem. A final criticism is the threat of discharge if you don't contact the team for a given time. An inherent part of living with ADHD is a difficulty with organisation and time keeping, and sometimes you forget to do the forms. And if you miss the email reminders you may end up discharged. Though I see the necessity of staying in touch during the titration process for safety and legality, it could be more accommodating for ADHD symptoms in that regard. One final note I'd like to make is on the inclusivity of the process. While the official stuff like prescriptions and addresses have to stick legal names and gender markers, the individual staff and personal sections of the website are very accommodating for those of us with preferred names and gender markers who haven't made official changes. That was really reassuring and made the process far more comfortable than the GP visits.

Thank you for leaving such a detailed and insightful review. Our role here is to pass on patient feedback to the appropriate teams to improve our future service where possible. We are currently doing a big piece of work to make our forms more accessible for our patients, as we know many of our patients struggle with these. It would be very helpful to be able to speak with you directly about your thoughts on how we can improve this process. If this is something you would consider, please get in touch with us at: experience@psychiatry-uk. We have also noted your comments regarding the threat of discharge, and we are aware that this can be worrying for some of our patients. Unfortunately, we need to keep to a strict timeline where possible to try to reduce titration wait times for our patients. Finally, your note on the inclusivity of our processes is very valuable, as this is another area that we have strived to get right. Thank you for recommending Psychiatry-UK.

Diagnosis and care has been an insightful process, though at the stage of start of titration process there were some confusing issues and I made a complaint. I then received a message telling me that titration would start in two weeks and they again asked me for an ECG, but my doctor refused as I had not started medication. I replied to the email that I had received to explain this, and gave all my details, but was then told I did not exist on the system. This caused a bit of panic along with a long delay in me starting titration. I put in a complaint and then titration started. Once we had been through this little bit of drama, things went much more smoothly, and the nurse was fantastic. All in all, it has been a positive and life changing experience for me.

The process of setting up a Portal account was extremely challenging and daunting as a first time experience and I needed to contact my local medical centre to help me deal with the paperwork and form filling process. A truly nerve racking experience. Can this be simplified in any way to make it less intimidating. Once the information gathering process was complete it was a case of waiting for the actual appointment date with the Consultant. On the day of the appointment I was presented with another unexpected hurdle of filling in an AQ50 form online which was a bewildering and stressful experience finding myself linked onto some unrelated women's autism website. I had to phone the office for help but couldn't get to speak to anyone other than technical support who tried to help by putting me on hold for several minutes listening to a loud abrasive music soundtrack which I couldn't turn down. Finally got a call from Dan who was very kindly guided me through the final stage to Microsoft Teams and then to my appointment. What a very stressful ordeal. The appointment itself was excellent - very calming, reassuring and professional Work needs to be done to lessen the connection ordeal for first time users by explaining clearly at the outset what is going to happen and precisely which option to chose before joining the video call. It's not obvious to first time users.

Thank you for leaving such detailed feedback. We are really sorry to hear that you have found our processes so stressful. As an online company, we are often able to offer a shorter waiting time for assessment/treatment, but we know that our portal can be challenging for some patients, particularly those who struggle with technology. As specialists in the field of neurodiversity, we are continuously working to improve accessibility and are close to finishing a project that will make completing forms easier for our patients. Would you be willing to contact us directly to discuss the issues you have encountered in more detail and describe how we could have made things simpler for you? If this is something you would consider, please could you contact our Patient Experience Team: experience@psychiatry-uk.com.

Psychiatry UK is online and helps people struggling to get much more timely help and diagnosis than the NHS Neurodevelopment Centre in Worthing can offer. The Neuro centre in Worthing said it would be at least 7 years before I could get a diagnostic appointment. I’d probably be dead by then. Psychiatry UK saw me within 6 months, as per their promise

I found the process clear & easy to access & follow. I understand that the service is under extreme pressures right now, so yes there were periods of waiting. But I didn't feel that these were outrageously long. I was treated with kindness & understanding by all the professionals I had contact with. I received prompt responses to any queries. I feel that this has been a very positive experience for me.

Having sought the help of a psychiatrist who holds such a high position – as a council member of the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine – I had expected a level of empathy, compassion, and understanding that would surely befit such a status. However, my experience fell markedly short of these expectations. Throughout my session, I found this psychiatrist to be aloof, unsympathetic, and inattentive. Whereas previous professionals have listened with warmth and offered constructive feedback, this professional's demeanor was cold and dismissive. There seemed to be an alarming absence of the most basic human virtues one would expect from a healthcare professional – empathy and emotional intelligence. Given his esteemed position within the Royal Society of Medicine, I had anticipated a depth of knowledge that could provide a unique insight into my situation. However, akin to an academic detailing theory without context, his advice felt abstract and detached, missing the mark when it came to useful, actionable guidance. In addition, his lack of warmth and human touch left me feeling far from cared for, which, for anyone seeking psychiatric help, can be as detrimental as the lack of any professional advice. Psychiatrists, especially those in notable positions, should lead by example. In my view, he failed to uphold the ideals of professionalism, empathy, compassion, and understanding that the profession - and certainly his esteemed position - demands. In conclusion, if you're looking for a psychiatrist who provides sympathetic and compassionate treatment combined with experienced insights, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. This experience has taught me that a respected position does not automatically equate to exceptional patient treatment.
