Karen is a fantastic stoma nurse and always returns my calls when I’m in need. Her reliability is amazing as she is always there whether it is over the phone or in the comfort of my home. I’ve always received full support and wouldn’t want anybody else as my personal nurse. She’s a lovely person inside and out of her profession and is good company.

Mrs Karen Totty was knowledgeable, reassuring and sympathetic. She obviously has relevant experience gained over many years in this field and was able to give advice on many associated factors and symptoms of this kind of bowel surgery and the progress of recovery. It was very important to be able to discuss all and everything with her and to know that things were going well.
I have the utmost confidence in her ability and would like to thank her for her kindness.

Where do I start, Karen as my stoma nurse, has been totally approachable, friendly and always there to help. Having had my operation, which was unexpected, and consequently having a stoma I cannot thank Karen enough for her care and being there. Everything was explained in detail from dietary needs and certain foods to avoid. Knowing Karen is at the end of the phone, should problems arise, has helped considerably.

Karen has been marvellous at guiding me through stoma care for my husband. She answered all my questions clearly and at no time did I feel like I was doing anything wrong, even though I was a bit clumsy. We were offered different types of stoma bags, equipment and Karens years of experience were evident on how quickly we adapted and coped with stoma. I feel confident about managing onward care and knowing Karen is just a phone call away should be need her is another bonus. Karen is a great nurse and teacher and we are very fortunate to have her as our nurse.

I would like to say i have had home visits from Karen to check that i am managing ok with the stoma and everything is healthy i can honestly say Karen as been fantastic with all the support she as given me and I don’t think I would have got through this last two months without her support. Karen Totty is a Stoma Specialist Nurse who has worked in the NHS and private sector since qualifying as a State Enrolled nurse in 1986 and then a Registered General Nurse in 1989. During this time Karen has developed a vast wealth of knowledge and skills within the Colorectal Surgical Speciality.
Karen began her Stoma career in 2001 as a Colorectal/Stoma Specialist Nurse, at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. In 2007 she ventured out into the community as a Stoma Specialist Nurse working for Wilkinson Healthcare and then Fittleworth Medical. In November 2023, Karen moved over to the Nottingham Appliance Management Service (NAMS), as a Stoma Specialist Nurse and Prescriber. She works closely with NHS Specialist Stoma Nurses and other Health Professionals to provide individualised care and support to patients using the NAMS Service.
In her free time Karen is a keen gardener and enjoys spending time with her family, going for walks and travelling at home and abroad.
