Review of Urgent Treatment Centre - Adult written by a patient

I was very scared because of my symptoms and the staff were very accommodating. One of the nurses hooked me up to an ECG and showed the results to a senior doctor who then wanted a second opinion. They were completely transparent throughout. Very comforted by the staff offering food whilst we waited.

Review of Paediatric A&E - St Peter's
7th December 2020

Children’s A&E was very dark and cold while we waited. I totally understand the need to wait for the doctor -,and all the staff were lovely when we saw them - but it was a long wait in a dark, chilly waiting area.

Suggested improvements
Heating. More comfortable seating. A TV?

I was completely mis triaged by the nurse. I waited 3.5 hours to see a doctor while in complete agony with pain in my lower abdomen. When I tried to talk to the nurse again she was rude. She made a point of waiting before she would talk to me and refused to discuss her reasons for her triage just telling me “there were people much sicker than me” When finally seen by a doctor he immediately appreciated the agony I was in and gave me pain relief straight away. I was immediately given orange priority and sent to join a q with the incoming ambulances. From there I have been treated totally professionally. I am currently in Kingfisher ward being treated for appendicitis.

Suggested improvements
Have a better triage system. The entrance toUTC was confusing and I had great difficulty understanding where to go and what to do when initially dropped off by my husband who couldn’t stay. As I am in hospital I am happy to discuss my experience which was extremely distressing. I would emphasise I am happy with my experience post UTC and the staff here in Kingfisher ward are very good.

I was very pleased. The waiting time was 5 minutes and the check up very good. Very nice staff and doctor. Thank you!

I went to St Peter’s Hospital because of tonsillitis. Luckily the waiting time wasn’t too long, therefore the doctors proceeded with the check ups. However, after the check up, no one came to check on me for the next 4 hours. Because of my tonsillitis I couldn’t eat much, so when I asked for lunch I was given a dry sandwich that I obviously couldn’t even swallow. On top of that, no nurse or doctor gave me any clear instructions on my condition and on the next steps that had to be taken. Very bad experience.

Suggested improvements
I understand it is a busy period for the NHS, but the number of staff and care given must be improved.
