My complaint is restricted to a phone message received to my mobile phone. The message left advised me that my mother had been moved to xxxxxx ( which I was not able to decipher) and was being moved at 13.00 that day to a ward which I thought was “Tillery”. The message ended with advice to call a number 01873 732488, I called this number continuously for 65 minutes where it was engaged each time. When I eventually got through I was advised that the word I had missed was YAB and this was the way they referred to Ebbw Vale hospital. When any message is sent it must be accurate and be able to be understood by anyone receiving it, this would have avoided the necessity to call back and have the stress created by not knowing what was going on. It is also not good enough to have an extension engaged for such long periods of time.

I was quite poorly when admitted to Neville hall. I was quite upset at how I was treated and agree with many of the recent comments on this website. Such a terrible feeling being left feeling old and forgotten.

It is a shame that our great NHS gets so many complaints, but from personal experience what this hospital needs is the following. When a patient is admitted to a ward, the relatives need to be issued with a point of contact on the ward. A named person that they can contact, leave messages for, and someone they can trust in to keep them updated and to be completely honest with them, also a second who can deal when the first is on holiday, on days off etc. What no you say, nurses are there to nurse. The relatives know the person best and maybe there wouldn't be so many complaints if a point of contact was issued and adhered to. But it seems this hospital doesn't listen and doesn't want to improve or change. What do the NHS pay all those 'managers' for.

The nurses and sisters were brilliant, my only complaint was that there was not enough on shift especially during the night and weekend period. The wards toilets showers were not cleaned the whole nine day stay I was there.

My relative has been admitted to Neville hall. Okay one would think, they need medical help, yes that why they have been admitted. But they are not incontinent. They are not put in adult nappies at home because they r quite capable of doing what's required themselves. But when admitted to the ward in this hospital they are automatically put in nappies regardless. Who cares about this elderly persons dignity-no one certainly not this hospital or the staff who no doubt find it convenient to not spend time assisting these elderly patients to the toilet and would rather spend time chatting and laughing in their tea room, than take this elderly person to the toilet. Hey lets automatically put everyone admitted into nappies then we don't have to do our job, who cares about this elderly persons dignity, we certainly don't at Neville hall hospital.

We are very worried. As a family our beloved grandparent is being admitted for the fourth time and with all these poor reviews and our own experiences, we are v concerned. If the nhs admitted when they had failed and tried to correct it , things wouldn't be so bad, but they always seem to be in denial and want to push the blame onto the easy targets which is often the relatives. We dread to think what these 'professionals' write in their reports that we don't get to see. Our relative was released as being fit but we found out a few weeks ago that they had actually released him in the early stages of pneumonia. It was hospital born but the hospital tried to say it was community based, when he rightly got read mitred again to the hospital. If they were just honest, fair and polite, maybe there wouldn't be so many poor reviews regarding this hospital and the staff.

We are the only relatives for an elderly aunt who was admitted to this hospital. We have power of attorney for her. It is heartening to hear others have had similar bad experiences when it comes to elderly care at this hospital. My aunt wasn't incontinent yet she was put in a nappy. No doubt for staff convenience. We live a distance from the hospital so can only visit three times a week. Imagine our luck that we saw her doctor still on his rounds when we visited one day. Or that's what we had hoped. The doctors are as rude as the sisters on the ward, if my husband hadn't insisted the doctor speak to us, he would have just walked away saying he had other people to see. What is wrong with this hospital, is it a cultural thing where relatives are ignored and pushed aside, where doctors think they know best and don't listen to the relatives. We don't understand it. We both had careers in the service industry and would never speak to people the way these people in positions of power in this place do, ie sisters on wards and docotors . Something needs to be done to improve the attitude towards relatives at this place.

I have been admitted to neville hall several times in the last 25 years as a patient with a long standing illness and have always had good treatment and care and felt very looked after by all the staff. However in my most recent admission, I was very isolated and was lucky if I saw one nurse a day. I also had difficulty with another patient who I overheard making nasty remarks about me to a nurse because I was being isolated due to having the flu. I had to walk to the toilets with a mask on to prevent spreading which I accepted but to hear another patient saying to a nurse that I shouldn be allowed to use the toilet was very upsetting to me, particularly as I saw no-one all day every day for over a week practically. This same nurse I also found in this other patients room where the patient was smoking an e cig in her room. I complained to a staff member about the other patient who I overheard being horrible to many people including staff, but my concerns weren’t taken seriously. I was provided with little information day by day and was only seen by nurses when it was time to give the mess out. I went about five days without seeing a doctor. I can honestly say this spell in hospital made me feel very down and I pity more vulnerable patients who are less able to do things for theirselves being in that situation

My friend has been in and out of hospital recently and has received poor care. Her relative was snidely reprimanded by a nurse for not bringing in the right medication on submission, the nurse was incredibly rude and when she was moved to a ward without the relatives, some of her things went missing and no one could say where they went. On going back to the ward she came from, they said well how do we know that those items are hers!, they are the ones who left them behind. Terrible and don't get me started on the nurses laughing and joking in the staff offices whilst the patients are pressing the buzzers for attention and getting ignored.
