I am 77 years old and phoned today to make an appointment for a covid/flu vaccination. Waited a long time to get through as I was fourth in the queue. Got down to second and the line went dead so had to start again. Eventually spoke to a receptionist who informed me the first appointment they could offer me was in a month’s time. When I complained this was a long time to wait she was extremely patronising and said they hadn’t got enough vaccines to put on extra clinics. With one of the most elderly patient groups in the borough, was this a mistake in advance ordering. Just seen a friend of mine who are patients at Stag Medical Centre. He is 91 she is 89. They have not had their Covid vaccination because they can’t get through to the surgery in the phone. Yet another friend of mine at a different surgery phoned hers and got one the following day. Stag Medical and Rose Court surgeries - this is not good enough.

Suggested improvements
The receptionist I spoke to was very unhelpful and patronising. She kept repeating the same excuse as if I hadn’t understood. Better training is needed.

I would like to thank Dr Joe Thomas for his telephone consultation this morning. He was kind and listened to what I had to say, and I really appreciated that. I have always found the receptionists to be very helpful too. I know it's frustrating when you can't get through on the phone to them, but that's not their fault. They all work under pressure, and they have to deal with quite a few difficult situations.

Everyone could do better at times, but with the way things are at the moment, it's rarely possible to do more than you can

Well it's fair to say this practice is dying. People are numbers and the boxes just get ticked then staff go home and..... repeat Some receptionists are polite and helpful but some want to prosecute you for calling or asking to be seen. How sad

I phoned at 8am (time surgery opens) and was informed I'm 4th in the queue. When actually getting through to reception I explained I have tonsillitis (I suffer from this regularly so I know) and could I please see a Dr. The receptionist explained there we're no appts available but would get a Dr to call me. No problem... The Doctor called about 20mins later which impressed me I told her my symptoms and she made me an appt for 11.30. I was just setting off from home at 11.15 when my phone rang explaining they would need to cancel my appt because the Dr's son had taken ill. I asked what they could do and she was so rude! I know from past experience it takes literally 2 mins to show a Dr my throat, They agree and prescriptions printed. She said if I felt that ill I should go to a walk in centre. I asked when I could have a prescription ready for and she told me I had to call back after 3. I tried to explain I couldn't call after 3 due to going on a family holiday straight after school. (Fri before half term) I didn't get that far because she hung up on me. I can't explain just how rude she was. Appalling service, I'm so upset and disappointed and feel I deserve to be treat better than this. The Receptionists really do require training in patience and empathy. Horrible and upsetting treatment from a professional organisation. I guess everyone is just a number these days.

Absolutely appalled by the way I was spoken to by receptionist (Kate) whom when I asked speak to another member of staff as she was so rude she then came back downstairs and stated shouting and pointing her finger at me whilst another member of staff stood in front of her telling her to be quiet and to go back through the door. This didn't stop her shouting that she was going to put a complaint in about me ??? Not sure how she'd manage that and saying she wasn't going to have a complaint put in her against by someone like me....... Absolutely disgusting behaviour from someone in a professional position that clearly shoudn't be.
