Northdown surgery as gone down hill due to the fact that now. that one doctors and two advanced nurses left Northdown surgery and moved to Westgate on sea surgery. so no point in trying to book appointments unless you want one in two months time through patient access. but did northdown surgery try to keep the 3 staff that moved to westgate on sea surgery.

Response from Northdown Surgery

Staff turnover is very low for our practice with over 86% of our employees being with us for greater than 2 years and 50% for more than 8 years. Any individual who proffers their resignation has their own person reasons for leaving and it would not be appropriate to discuss staff reasons for leaving with anyone other than the member of staff concerned, and certainly not on a public forum. We have replaced the two ANPs with Paramedic Practitioners and are actively seeking additional GPs to join our practice. The issue concerning a lack of GPs is a national issue and not specifically related to the Thanet area. Northdown Surgery has applied for, and been accepted, as part of a national scheme to assist with recruiting and relocating GPs. If you have been unable to make an appointment then please contact the surgery to provide me with details as we have numerous locums providing additional support to the surgery at the moment. Regards, Tricia Lukas Practice Manager

I find the surgery floor to be disgusting! Used tissues on the floor, the toilets like that they haven't been clean for several days, and sticky seats. They DO NOT answer the phone. I've been in there about 8am, and the phone will be ringing for about 15 minutes, and the receptionists were either stuffing their faces, or talking about their plans for the weekend. I could be calling the phone for 35 minutes, and they still don't answer. When they do answer you make a phone consultation, then book it wrong, and put it down as a face to face appointment. So you get into trouble for THEIR CARELESS MISTAKE. The doctors' take forever. Sometimes I've waited about 50 minutes to see a doctor. Some people could be waiting for about an hour before they even see someone. The doctors' do not listen, and are arrogant. One receptionist made an appointment for HER RELATIVE, and when I told the Staff Manager she was like "No she didn't. Our staff do not give special treatment to their friends/family". Funny enough the receptionist got fired not too long after I said this, so it proves that the staff there lie to protect their own. I am disgusted by the service of Northdown Surgery, and I do not recommend anyone to seek professional help there. They need to fire most of their receptionists except for 2, and get doctors who will actually listen, and will be there, and not on holidays.

These allegations are extremely serious and no one has spoken to me about all the concerns you raise. The only issue stated above of which I am aware was that someone was cleaning the floor with tissues complaining about how dirty the place is. On that occasion the person's child had spilt their drink all over the floor so the stickiness was due to the spillage rather than the surgery being dirty. Please send in written correspondence citing dates/times you experienced these issues and I will address them with the partners on your behalf. I am also not aware that any receptionist has been fired so would be grateful for details. Regards, Tricia Lukas Practice Manager

Getting a repeat appointment a month in advance is impossible. You have three choices: 1. Ask at reception tolk to book immediately after you conclude the first appointment. You'll be told they can't do it. If you enquire why you'll be fed the bunkum that the practice has deficit in the numbers of Doctors available. This may be true but it should not prevent follow-up appointments being made with a particlar Doctor. 2. Wait to the day and take pot luck using the standard abysmal appointments system . Either ring on the day at 8am or queue for the Surgery doors to open at 8.30am. You may be lucky! 3 Use the online patient access system[if you can access it] , and make an advance booking if one is available? I would add that when you do eventually get to see a physician the service is very good. The phrase "lions served by donkeys" comes to mind. Apparently the Practice Manager, like her predecessors, is now pursuing interests outside of Northdown Surgery. The appointments system used by this surgery is useless and has been for years. An effective system would greatly improve matters. A final comment. Recently NHS 111 phoned the surgery around 3-4pm in the afternoon. No answer? Says everything!!!
