- Receptionists have improve. Some receptionists (Knaphill) are brilliant and very very helpful. Some have been awful (at York House and at Knaphill). Awful because they make things difficult for you - things that are their job they try to shove on to you. For example in the case of a referral one receptionists told me to contact the hospital myself. Hang-on the practice is supposed to do the referral!
Drs are also varied: you have the excellent Drs e.g. Dr Verma and Dr Roberts ... both exceptional, experienced and qualified. Then you have some mediocre Drs who rush through e.g. blood test results and don't spot problems. I have twice waited for 3 and half weeks for my blood test results to be released to me (in spite of the fact that the results came back from the lab in 4 days). Then a mediocre Dr put down that the results were normal (when they weren't) - oh and the Dr failed to keep her appointment with me. So I booked an appointment (2 weeks waiting time) and the practice switched the time of the appointed, ent and did not inform me. I told the receptionist what the issue was and the the Dr agreed ... quite serious stuff as the medication was potentially damaging my liver. But anyway 5 weeks ... then another week and a half to get another blood test. This is only one saga and one problem. I could list several other.
My advice is try and find out as much as you can about your problem ... don't expect the practice to run around for you (e.g. in another instance there was a issue with the lab receiving the blood in time and so they did not do the relevant test as the sample had deteriorated. The GP practice did not tell me this, they just gave the results which could be obtained and did not bother asking me to come and test for the other conditions). They don't necessarily follow up with hospitals or do what the hospital has asked them to do. Chase the practice and insist to see the Dr of your choice.
The practice also makes a lot of use of locums who come and go (locums are highly paid contractors). They prefer to not see you. They think about their efficiency and not your stress levels i.e. well being.
This used to be an amazing practice once upon a time.
It's so difficult to get appointments with GP. I am trying to get appointments for 4 days, but after I wasn't able to get appointments I gone to get appointments face to face in health centre. And still they sent me to walking centre instead and sitting there with chest pain for hours.
Communication is very poor, you sit on the phone as number 1 for over 40 minutes and when you get through your told to go online. Gp telephone appointment was finally booked for a few weeks later and the gp just decided not to call and to asked the pharmacist to call the following week without informing me so was sat in waiting for a call that never came. Made a complaint to practice manager and she never even got back to me
Impossible to get any help whatsever.
If you wnat an appointment you have to phone at 8am - that's it. If you're not available to phone then, tough! Can't book non-urgent appointments for a time say 2 weeks time so you can plan. No, phone up in the morning and try your luck. With a job and three young kids this is not realistic. Surely in 2021 we should be able to book an non-urgent appointment at the next available time.
The doctors have always been great. It's just a complete nightmare trying to arrange to see them. It is no wonder that many men suffer poor health because they are reluctant to go to the doctor. How many have tried and simply given up?
Got appointment through phone maybe 4\5 weeks later to request for a referral, waited another 5 weeks and called the hospital to ask about hospital appointment , only to know Razia Palejwala forgot to send the referral that was requested 5 weeks back. Hence from the point of making appointment with the illness it was 10 weeks for the hospital to get the request, let alone the appointment.
